  • Thoughts on this outdoor setup?

I'm looking to build a simulator and the only space afforded to me is under my large carport. It's really big, enough for two cars so should work well in terms of space. I've thought about just using my current net and adding a 65" tv on a stand that I can put on the side (to go along with MLM2Pro). However, I keep coming back to an impact screen because I feel it would feel more realistic and immersive. Because my carport is open, I won't be able to leave anything outside (aside from the screen and mat) due to concerns with theft.

What I'm considering is getting an impact screen and a small projector that I can put on a high stand behind me. The stand extends to 6 ft and I'm only 5'7" so I'm thinking that would be high enough. The projector (ONOAYO 4K) I'm considering is only $185 on amazon and based on pics, appears to do ok in sunlight. It's really small (7.8"x6.5"x3.2" and 2.4lbs). That said, I wouldn't have a problem spending up to $700-$800 on a different projector that might work better for my needs. The main thing for me is ease of setting up. I literally don't want to have to spend more than two minutes to set up and break down (or I probably won't use it much). Thoughts?

    Equipment:
    - MLM2Pro
    - Fiberbuilt Pro Studio 5x4 mat
    - Impact screen
    - Onoayo 4K portable projector
    - Tall stand that extends up to 72"

Is your current setup indoors, and if so do you have room to hit a driver?

I'm not sure what you're asking. Did you read my first post?

I did. You said you were looking to build a simulator but wondering if you should use your current net. That made me assume you have a setup somewhere. Would that be indoors?

Gotcha. No, I bought a net a couple of years ago when I thought I'd build a simulator but had issues getting the launch monitors I bought to work properly (original Rapsodo and the Flightscope). Therefore, I returned the launch monitors and aborted the project. Fast forward a year and a half and I'm about to buy the MLM2Pro and other things to finally put everything in action.

Be aware that hitting golf balls is kind of loud and neighbors may not want to hear it at night. Outdoors is tough on a projector image, night time is obviously better for this but the noise may be a factor to think about.

Hitting under my carport is my only option so it is what it is. I don't plan to play late, probably nothing later than 8ish so I think they can deal with me hitting a few times a week. We also live across the street from a tee box on our course so the sound of balls being hit isn't foreign to us. As for the projector, yeah, that is a concern. There are some projectors that do a pretty decent job in bright conditions so I'm still considering it. What I'll probably do is set up a 60" tv that I already own and put that on the side to see how I like it. Maybe it sitting on the side will be fine, I don't know because I have yet to do it. I just received my MLM2Pro today so I will test things out tomorrow!
