  • Top golf setup

I'm brand new to launch monitors. But have been going to top golf every weekend and playing a few times a month. I'm pretty determined to get better. I want a LM to use at Top Golf. I have platinum membership with 5 other guys, and honestly it is amazing value.

Atraching a picture below. Size is pretty limited at the bay and wondering what you all would recommend for me. I don't really have a budget.

At Top Golf there isn't alot of space behind the tees, but more important, there is alot of activity and movement behind the tee from golfers, wait staff, and even the group hitting next to you. If you go with a radar-based unit, that needs to sit behind the tee, it might get kicked and damaged. Plus, with the high volume of balls being hit, a radar based unit may get confused and not track the shots properly.

A camera-based launch monitor may be able to sit in front of you safely on the hitting mat or on the plastic but you may not have enough room there either. I tried to simulate the TopGolf setup with a 3" binder and a GC3 (See photo below). It slid every once in a while, so that could be a problem, but it still tracked the shots ok. Distance from monitor to your hitting zone will be a key factor as well. As you can see by the tape measure, the GC3 needs about 17" to get safely inside the hitting zone. Each launch monitor will be a little different.

It is important to note, the TopGolf hitting bay looks steeper than the notebook, so it may not work at all. Camera-based radar options include Garmin Approach R50, SkyTrak+, Foresight GC3, Foresight GCQuad, FullSwing Kit, and Uneekor Eye Mini etc.
