  • Swing Camera Flickering - any ideas?

Just bought a new swing camera and when I plugged it in and set it up, the picture is horrible and there's brutal dark light dark light flickering. Makes it unusable video basically.

Laptop - Dell Alienware very recent, quite loaded (for a laptop)
Cameras - SVPRO USB 1080p camera 2mp which appear to be rebranded versions of the Kayeton...which is what Foresight sells as their branded swing cameras; using the 2.8mm-12mm zoom lens and also have a wide 2.1mm lens for the face on which is quite close to my hitting spot.
Software - using in Foresight FSXPlay - will try FSX2020 as well. Saw no frame refresh rate settings anywhere in the FSXPlay though. Would love to use them in GSPro but not sure that's an option?
Launch Monitor - not sure it matters but Foresight GC3

Someone suggested online it might be due to a weak usb extension cable but when I plugged the camera USB directly into the two USB port on the side of my laptop it was exactly the same. Nonetheless I've ordered an active extension cable to see if that boost helps.

Other suggestions have been to use a more powerful USB port on the computer but I have no idea how to tell which is more powerful - i've tried the two regular USB ports on the right side and both have the same results. There's two USB C in on the back of the laptop so I will try those next with adapters.

Other suggestions were that it might be my lighting in the garage - LED can cause that flickering look on camera, something to do with frame refresh rate of video but I see nothing anywhere on how to adjust frame rate etc. No advanced settings.

Any help would be appreciated for anyone who has dealt with this or has any suggestions.

I think this may be alighting issue. See if the camera works better in natural daylight

100% this, but changing the capture rate will not help. You need to find light bulbs that have a switching frequency at or above 90hz. Some of the dimmable bulbs are good candidates.

thanks. You're right I tested with daylight per the other suggestion.

re the bulbs I'll give it a google search. Interestingly the lights on the simulator side are on a dimmer switch but they still 'flicker' on camera at all dim levels.

Got a link to something so I can go by it?

You can turn off the can lights and use some video panel lighting like these flicker free ones.
