New Golf Simulator Project

Hello Everyone.

New to the forum.

I'm moving kids games out downstairs and want to build a golf sim. I can spend 15-20K without the wife getting too upset about it.

My issue is space. I easily have 10.5 feet wide and about 17 feet long with ceilings a little over 9 feet. Its just going to be myself playing/practicing so no right, left issues, and I've swung my driver in this space stating on a 3 inch platform without any issues.

Im leaning towards the new Tru Golf Vista series (Vista 10 should fit). They are having discounts right now so It would run me around 14K. Seams like E6 is pretty good but not sure if the True track is any good. I'm also looking at GC2 all in (GCS, HMT) is around 12K and I hear the FSK software (3K sucks) and the rep told me it doesn't support other software (TGC, E6, etc)

It seams like the structure is one main issue and my search it appears that the structures cost about 8 grand. I'd rather spend extra money on the projector and computer as Im sure the companies that bundle this stuff use crap which of course (especially the computer) could lead things to lag a lot.

Do people actually build their own netting /screen or does any one have recs on how to do it or where to buy. I'm pretty tech savvy but not great at building things....

Anyway, I know its a lot of questions but would love any advice...Thanks again....

It's pretty easy and (relatively) cheap to build your own screen and enclosure. Some basic carpentry skills and time is all you need. I did netting and 15ft of raw material from Par2pro, memory foam mattress toppers from Ebay for behind the screen, 108 inch curtains for the sides, 2 inch acoustic foam tiles for the ceiling. All in, I was at almost exactly 1 grand for a 14.5 foot wide screen. Pic is a little dark. Still need to put putting green on floor, just using rugs right now.

With your budget, i would say go with the GC2 and skip their FSX software. Try to see if you can get one without the SDK fee. Then go with TGC or by the time you get ready you can also check out PG for your software options. And it's easy doing your own screen and such.

Thanks. This is what I put together from par2pro site for a screen and turf. Is this a good stand for the screen? I see a company called golf simulator guys sells a frame and screen for about $4500 but not sure how this would compare...

I figure I can spend about $2000 on a decent projector and $1500 on a good Alienware computer and then decide how I want to proceed with the analyzer and software

I wouldn't buy a stand from any company. You can make your own at a significant savings. I am going to be in the process of making my own with 1" EMT and canopy fittings. You can get them from here.

You could also built your own mat with just using a strip of CCE for under a $100. You should be able to get a projector cheaper than 2k as well.

It's personal preference on the CCE. I went with the 5x5 and have no regrets. The square ones can be rotated 4 times, so negligible price difference long term between 5x5 and strips. Some people do find it to be a bit squishy for a stance mat though.

Also, I recommend the raw material if trying to save money. I had never used as sewing machine in my life and had no issue sewing hems with straps on the top and sides of the HQ material. Took about an hour total. It's not the cleanest seams, but they are completely hidden.

I agree w/ wbond on the projector. The Benq1085ST (1080p) can be found for $800. No need to go above $1000 unless you're looking for 4k.

I have the GC2 with foresight software and almost exclusively use TGC. The only reason I got foresight software is because I eventually plan on adding the HMT.

Would seem 6 x Open flat corner, and 2 x Mitre. Would be about 50% of the prices normally quoted for a golf cage.

Following the link to the tarps. Com site, you will find the connection parts that you add your own emit pipe to, to make a golf cage. Other golf specialist suppliers charge double this for the same product

Yes, looks like the flat roof corner would be the normal connector used in golf cage kits.
