    Skytrak Distances....seem low

I'm sure I may have seen this elsewhere in the forum, but couldn't find the thread to add to...

I am new to skytrak, but know my distances in the real world.

I have been hitting 9 iron as this is a club I am always consistent with and would be 130-135 depending on carry. Yet on skytrak the trajectory looks right but the distances are 110-119 on the skytrak range.

I am pretty confident there is no difference in my swing.

I usually would hit PW this distance, but there doesn't appear to be a PW option in skytrak range to compare it with.

Hitting off a non moving surface, akin to putting turf so connection is clean.

    Any ideas????

I had a lesson the other day and the instructor was surprised to hear what my 8 iron was on my SkyTrak - as he thought I was hitting it about 15-20 yards further (carry, not with roll). We never did test it with a range finder, but I'll be doing that this Wednesday when I go back and see him for a fitting. I'm "suspicious" but I definitely have no evidence to support it. I know my driver swing is a work in progress so I don't even try to compare with that, but my 7 and 8 iron have seemed a little low and I'm fairly consistent.

My distances have been spot on with Skytrak, Just did a club fitting at golftown with a GC2 and all my distances were very similar to the numbers i have logged with Skytrak all winter.

Does skytrak work outside?, as may take along to the range to see how it compares to the distance markers

Yes it does work outside , I've had mine at the range to check distances. Just try and avoid it being in direct sunlight and make sure it's set up level.

I was finding the issues with distances with irons were about 15 yards short so I raised the height of the sky trak by about 1.5 inches and now it's spot on

I might try that, I do believe mine might be just a small bit low.

                Thanks guys

Does hitting surface make any difference, as I am also about to pick up a CCE hitting strip, and don't want to compound any distance issues.

I have been using the E6 range and I will say that the carry is a bit low based on the ball stats. I was getting just over 150 yd carry with 116 ball speed 21.5 degree launch and around 7 k rpm with my 8 iron. that should be almost 10 yards further than it is saying. But that is a software issue not skytrak issue. skytrak averages me where I get on cg2 and see in real life.

I had a lesson yesterday. My 7 iron was between 135 and 150 carry (range finder). On my best hit 7-iron in SkyTrak app I get 125 yards carry. I hope if I raise the unit slightly it will help, but pretty disappointed right now. I had a feeling some of the yardages were low, but since I'm new too golf I didn't want to say for sure. It has been a ***** playing TGC and coming in 20 yards short on most shots.

I will re-test with the unit just slightly higher and report back.

Was your lesson outside? Did you take your skytrak with you to see these results with outdoor testing?

It was. And no I didn't have a chance to test it there. I did however go to golfsmith and try out some new clubs on their GC2's making sure I looked at the LCD output for confirmation of carry. The carry was higher, but I can't say for sure since I was testing newer clubs (my current clubs are probably 30 years old and not the best anyways). - so in other words, I haven't confirmed that mine is off yet. I'll be doing further testing and outside testing in the next couple weeks to be certain.

Over in us at the moment taking lessons, where they had a Trackman ( unfortunately I did not have my skytrak to compare) and confirmed distance comfortably above prior skytrak. Can't imagine it's just the indoor environment that brings my distance down.... But will see when I bring a skytrak outside. So far it's taking 20 yds off my 9. Will compare to the 7 I was hitting with trackman when regularly getting 170-180. More to come....

Just an update..... I finally managed to get the skytrak down to my driving range yesterday.

Range is covered, and hits into water with distance markers.... So have to allow for additional roll from where it plops!

I was actually impressed as it seemed relatively accurate, with my 8 between 150 and 160. Didn't have the 9 so couldn't do a direct comparison with previous results.... But safe to say, would expect it to be 130 ish. So all looks good.,,. And hopefully the indoor reads will start getting to this level as well.

Even tried a 60 deg wedge, and distance was spot on. - is there anyway to capture info for wedges, as it seems I can only select up to 9 iron in the menu?

From what i recall, you can select many different wedges. They may be listed with actual loft vs name.

i to have beeb struggling with distance, especially driver. i confirmed yesterday on the course with my skytrak that my driver is about 20 yards short and my irons are are 10 yards short. was kind of a pain to do cuz i did it during a round. verified with range finder and gps. when i got home if i jack the altitude up to 9500 its about right but i dont thing that with translate over to perfect golf. i will try raising the unit to see if that works
