  • Winter 2017-2018 build

I've been lurking on these forums for a while, finally registered. am moving from Florida back to the midwest after 3 glorious winters of golf down here, I don't think I can give up swinging a club all year round. So my father-in-law, uncle (who both live in Indiana) and I decided we're going to build a golf simulator. Here's the main hardware list we came up with. We plan on spending about $5,000 on the main simulator hardware.

All input is welcome! Especially any tips on a putting surface. We've never done this before so I've just been Googling "Best <insert piece>".

    • SkyTrak Launch Monitor- $2,249 + Game Improvement $99.95 + TGC software - $795/one time fee
    • Impact Screen (http://www.carlofet.com/carls-prefer...l#.Wfpv1tCnGUk) - $325 There is a better option for like $600, but this should work fine I would imagine? We want to be able to hit real golf balls.
    • Benq MW632ST Projector (https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-MW632ST-.../dp/B010MDRIEA) - $580 Any other recommendations? I think we are going to mount it from the top of the cage.
    • TrueStrike Single Mat (https://www.truestrike.com/product/single-golf-mat/) - $750
    • "Hitting Cage" - 10'W x 15'L x 10'H, fabricating
    • Neting - already have
    • Carpet - already have
    • Computer - already have
    • iPad - already have
    • Cabling - already have

    Cheers ya'll!

As a matter of fact there are!

We finally finished dialing everything in Definitely wish I would have went with a more widescreen format (we went 10x10 to conserve space in garage) but once we mounted the projector to the ceiling and got a new computer, it's been going GREAT!

The only thing that sucks is the connection for charging the SkyTrak has been loose for a long time and we have to kind of maneuver it around the protective cage to stay in a spot where it will charge.

Is it the port itself or your cable? I’ve had some issues with tripping over my cable when charging, so I went to a battery pack to charge but I’m thinking about going with magnetic micro usb charging setup so it would just pull the cable away if I tripped on it and make it much easier to connect without worrying about messing up the alignment. If it is your port on the SkyTrak, short of sending it in, this might also work for you.

When we ran it via USB, it probably got tripped over a bit and made the port loose. It reminds me of an older cell phone connection.

I will definitely look into the magnetic micro USB though, that may work.
    Working...
