Really need some help

Hi guys. Just found this forum and it looks fantastic. I'm in the UK and need to play golf when it's dark and cold so I'm going to build a simulator in my garage. 2 (initial) problems:
-1: I have a pitched garage and there are beams going across at 8ft. Anyone know how easy it is to raise these to 10ft so I can swing the big dog?
-2: I thought I was dead cert going to get the skytrak. My all in budget is 4k, and skytrak looked loads better than optishot, and everything else is too expensive. The reviews on here for skytrak look dopey at best. Am I missing something on skytrak or is it just lefties complaining?

any help for a novice will be greatly received. Pics of beams attached.

I think the big thing with skytrak is the connection issues, once those get resolved, it's quite a nice piece of equipment for the price. I've been using it since it was released, 3yrs now. Also, some people tend to have a false idea of how far they actually carry the ball. BTW, optishot isn't even in the same realm of equipment at ST.

Cheers wbond. Is there anything that compares to ST four the price? What are the connectivity issues? My broadband is pretty decent.

The protee system is comparable, but a much different product. Then you jump to the GC2 pricing. Making sure you connect to the correct internet band and naming the router are some issues.

Op, I have a ST setup with a net return and TGC. Low budget ($3500). It works great for me. Skytrak isn’t great at HA (start direction), other than that it’s well worth the money. I’ve had minimal connection issues and I know how far I hit the ball. Good luck...

I have used a number of different launch monitors for my mobile golf simulator business and in my opinion there is nothing in the range of the Skytrak's price that comes close to comparable. If you could get a GC2 for the same price then I'd go with that for sure. But, it is nearly 3 times the price. We are pretty tech savvy so network connectivity issues have never been a challenge for us on the SkyTrak. The experience is so much better on the ST than the optishot that I can't even compare the two. We don't have much experience on the ProTee since it doen't really work well for mobile applications like ours.

How do you know what the correct 'Band' is and naming router?

The router name has to not have any spaces in or funny characters in the name and the ST needs to work on the 2.4Ghz band. Some modern routers/internet providers are working on 5Ghz

I've got a bog standard BT router and it connected straight away and not had any problems.

With regards to the room height - is there room above to raise the beams? If i were you i'd get a good reputable builder round and him what you want to do (or ideally a structural engineer) they can advise if it can be done. Remember its only the bit where the club will be that needs to be raised.

I looked at doing this in a garage we had, but it was a new build and moving the beams/trusses would have invalided my new build warranty. So i'm in the process of putting a 18ft x 14ft wooden shed in the garden.

Going to document it all on here as i go through, as not many UK builds on here.

Concrete pour for the base is going down in 2 weeks, as long as the snow is gone!
