  • Starting Garage build - dimensions 18'6'' x 14'6'' x 9'6'' (L x W x H)

I have been reading a lot of the forum posts and have recently purchased a SkyTrak and am planning to build a SIM in the garage.

Creating this post as a placeholder to be updated as the build progresses (might take some time, expecting to finish by mid Feb).

So, I have a detached garage that has a room on the side of the garage with the following dimensions 18'6'' x 14'6'' x 9'6'' (L x W x H) attached layout of the garage.

Hoping the 9'6'' height is going to be good for driver, a few inches are going to go in the flooring and the mat.

Here are my current thoughts on building the SIM
    - Cleanup that space and get rid of all the junk that has accumulated over the years, this might take a few weeks, I think.
    - Go with a 9Hx12Wx7D Superbay enclosure from http://www.allsportsystems.com/golf-simulator-setup.php
    - Use a short throw projector, maybe on the floor in front of the hitting mat (not decided on the projector, but the Optoma GT1080darbee looks interesting)
    - Trustrike or CCE mat, not decided as yet, had a tennis elbow condition this year, so don't want to take chances hitting off a hard mat again
    - 2x2 green tiles for the flooring or padded turn flooring for the room, not decided as yet
    - TGC for SIM play

Any and all feedback is welcome, and of course I will have a lot of questions as well.

Wishing you all a great golfing year in 2018!

If you’ve already had tennis elbow then I would highly suggest skipping the cce mat

I'm sure the superbay enclosure is nice and very clean looking but you can build something almost exactly the same if you do it yourself.
It will cost you about half the price in the end. Use that extra money in other places of the build.

Thanks for the feedback, I will go with the Trustrike mat, as I just cannot take chances with my elbow, it already caused me 10 weeks of no golfing last year.

BTW ... if anyone has a tennis elbow I would highly recommend a TheraBand FlexBar (green version)
Buy THERABAND FlexBar Resistance Bar, Heavy, Blue Flex Therapy Bar for Physical Therapy, Wrist & Forearm Exercise Equipment, Non Slip Grip, Compact Design: Elbow Braces - Amazon.com ✓ FREE DELIVERY possible on eligible purchases

It has a simple twist exercise for tennis elbow http://www.thera-bandacademy.com/tba...r-Tennis-Elbow
The day I started with this exercise the pain started going away, and it is a great bar for building forearm strength as well (the blue version)

I got the green one and wish I would have got the next level up but it does work

Thanks for the feedback, unfortunately I am not a very handy person and would have trouble at getting it done by myself.

I looked at your thread and your build looks really nice and clean and I also like how you gave the cost of everything, so am definitely going to look into this a bit more and see if I can pull off doing this on my own by buying each individual component like you did. The savings are substantial for sure.

I am definitely not a handyman either! I'm more of a "techy" guy myself but I did research a ton before building. I think you will be fine building it yourself because it's basically the same thing. You will just get a lot of boxes shipped to you from different vendors.
Hit me up if you have questions or need help with anything. It was actually fun trying to see how much I could save by doing it myself.
      Working...
