    Hi all,

    so I went with a 4:3 screen: essentially 11'x8'

Is it possible to do 4k on 4:3, is it worth it, in terms of visuals for TGC?

If the visuals are worth it, then what pc specs? I presume i7, 32gb RAM and 1080 Ti Graphics?

Currently have GC2 and FR1 (14 courses) only and supplied with an old pc, (2nd gen i5 4gb ram, old Graphics card), only used for testing the system so far but know will want better visuals then FR1.

    Cheers

Yes it will throw it out at 2880 x 2160
Probably not worth it, unless money no object! I presume your on about a 4K projector. You definitely need a new PC as well (running 1080 or 1080ti [i am running 1080ti in 1920x1080 on an optomo darbee) for good 4k frames per second.

Ultimate ratio is 16:10, great width for immersive feel and great height.

currently have two projectors (one came with the used GC2 from a golf superstore, here in Australia, and one from when I upgraded home cinema): neither 4k: the golf store one is a 1200x768 5000 lumens business type projector, the other is my old Mitsubishi HD9000! a serious home theatre projector in its day, but only 1300 lumens.....gonna try both and decide. Will eventually get a 4k, but seems outrageous and obscene given u have 2 sitting around)

Fancy building a new pc (hackintosh/dual boot power gaming rig: although I only golf, and don't game!)

I believe the only true 4K projectors out there are still the Sony where the cheapest is $5000 and does not likely have sufficient lumens for a golf sim. I’m not even sure the flag ship $25k one would either. These projectors are all designed for home theatre use.

Its my my understanding that the other ones use lens shift technology and the cheapest is around the $2k to $3k range. Even though they do use lens shift, their picture is still very good. Hopefully their prices begin to come down more at the end of the year, but I suspect these won’t have the lumens you would need either.

I think you will end up using the 5000 lumen pj. Unless you want nightgolf. I recently went from a 1200x800 3000 lumen to a 1920x1200 5000 lumen and the difference is amazing. I can play with all the lights on if i want. The older one i could only use with one spot light directed at the ball or the picture got washed out. I did look into 4K but could not find anything within a reasonable budget with enough lumens.
Also try to have dark materials around the screen and nearby walls and floor. (just like in home theater)

What is the make and model of your 5000 Lumen projector?

            Cheers

This is so close to be the projector I've been looking for! Only issue for me would be the throw ratio, I would need to put it at 19' from screen to get my screen size, and my hitting area is 10'. That sounds like shadow city with only about 9'5" ceiling height.
