Wanted to thank everyone on this forum for their contribution in completing a golf sim in my parents garage. My parents had just built a new house and my dad had full intention of purchasing a a new golf sim for it. After researching sites like TruGolf and FullSwing we realized pretty quickly that the total would be over $20k and we would still have to put everything together ourselves. I stumbled across this forum and quickly realized that this was something we could do on our own. I'm pretty good on the tech side of things and he is extremely handy with the construction so we made a good team. I was a bit nervous that it wouldn't turn out the way we wanted (especially since the old man was writing the checks) but it ended up being perfect. Thought I'd share some notes on what we did and would be happy to answer any questions as well.
Launch Monitor: GC2 refurbished from the Foresight website. I think this was the way to go given the warranty. It has worked great thus far.
Software: Perfect Golf. Absolutely love it. Very user friendly and we've already downloaded over 80 courses. Everything seems very accurate and the physics and graphics of the game are awesome. Zero complaints thus far. (Note I never have played TGC)
Impact Screen: Carl's Premium. The screen has been awesome. Very soft impact and the projector displays nicely on it. We currently have nothing behind the screen but the bounce back has been minimal.
Computer: CyberPower PC with a GTX 1060 6GB graphics card. Purchased the computer from Amazon and have had zero issues or glitches with PG.
Projector: Benq HT2150HT. Very simple to set up and use and the image is very clear. Currently projecting with a 4:3 ratio while the computer is in 16:9.
Monitor: Dell P2418HT. Purchased the monitor on Amazon and it works great for PG. I wouldn't say the touch screen definitely isn't a necessity but it certainly makes it easier.
Curtains: Peaks Tarps. Not extremely high quality but they definitely work and will stop the impact of the ball. Used this on one of the sides as well as on the ceiling. Our current ceiling protection is kind of sketchy as there is nothing above the curtain. My first swing with the driver I popped it straight up and the ball went right into the drywall. I think the plan is just to leave it as we're only hitting about 10' from the screen so it's not often that a ball hits the ceiling
Carpet Tiles: Menards. Very cheap and only on one side wall
Turf: Lowes unpadded putting turf. The turf is laying directly on the concrete which has been totally fine. It's more for looks rather than putting and it does a pretty good job at deadening the ball after hits the screen.
Mat: Truestrike. Works great and we use the Tomahawk tees with TeeClaws which work just as good as real tees.
If we were to do it again I don't think there would be much if anything I would do differently. Could have possibly figured out something a little better for the ceiling protection but I think we'll be able to make it work. I think all-in it was close to $11K with $5400 of that going into the GC2. Once again, thanks to everyone in this forum for your help. I spent many months on this site which made our set up very easy. I think we didn't even have a full day work into it before we were playing a full round which is incredible. Let me if you have any questions!
