  • Build in Fife, Scotland

After some deliberation I've started building a SkyTrak based system in my garage. I've got a 10yr old daughter who is currently undergoing treatment for leukaemia and has started to show an interest in golf. She's been taking lessons at my local range but depending on what stage of treatment she's at she can get quite tired quickly and doesn't like being around others who don't know what she's going through. Anyhow as I'm also a keen golfer this was all the excuse I needed to finally pull the trigger on a garage sim build. I spoke to my local clubfitter about what was involved in his setup and who he bought his kit from and got the ball rolling.

The work started yesterday. The first thing I've had to do is alter the roof joists to give me some more swing height. Sorry but the pics have come in with the wrong orientation!

Always nice to see another UK build on the go. That room looks pretty large, do you have control over all natural light entering the room? Reason I ask is 6.5M will be a long way to throw an image if the room is too light. Looks like you now have really good height clearance so I wouldn't rule out mounting over the swinging area as you could get away with a projector with less Lumens and totally remove any chance of shadow, you can always mount the projector in a cage if you are worried about golf ball strikes.

Yes, there are no windows since I replaced the side door with a solid one. Without the lights on the garage is pretty dark. Some light leakage under the main door but not much.

Sorry, I’ve been away travelling with work. It’s a benq ms630st. I needed a short throw for room dimensions.

It’s too good for the quality of the archery net I use but one day I’ll upgrade to an hd screen and it will come into its own

Thanks. I'm just waiting for my enclosure now. I do need some projector help though. Because of how I've raised the height it's going to be difficult to ceiling mount (as the lowest spot is now way too high. So I want to mount on the back wall but that is 6.5m from the screen (3mx3m). I've no idea what to get as it seems almost everyone here uses short throw models.

And the frame is now built

obviously it's on the floor there. I thought it would be easier to build like that then lift into position. Easier said than done, need to wait for an extra pair of hands.

And we're working. Need to get something softer on the floor to stop balls bouncing though.

                    That's looking good mate!
Will no doubt be picking your brain for how you did certain bits.
Where did you source your netting, screen and projector?

                    Hope you are enjoying it!

Got all of that from golfswingsystems - about a 5 week delivery. There's plenty here who've done not themselves but this made it all very easy.

Looks great mate, it will be a great place for you to spend time with your daughter.

Ive started on my own build (in fife too) wish I had the same space but im limited to my wee garage. Got most of the things I need ordered and most of the things I need to get rid off to clear space sold. So I will be getting everything installed when I get home next week.

Look forward to seeing how you get on with your build, maybe get a round sometime and more importantly it helps your daughter on the road to recovery.

                          All the best

                          Jaime

Can I ask how much that set you back please?

That’s amazing well done on the build. Wondering g if you can help me about to modify trusses in my garage. Did you get a structural engineer or truss company to help you with calcs for the modification?

                              thanks

I’m curious if you tried changing your aspect ratio to 4x3 ( instead of 16x9) to eliminate the wasted space on your screen.
