EMT Golf Build - Need help for safley hitting wedges!

    Hi all

So My build is built out of emt pipes. It is 8 feet tall 10 feet wide. It is only three feet deep, so very low profile. I have a ceiling issue so I can only "freely" swing a choke up 3 hybrid and up. So I am really working on irons and wedges which is fine by me..for now (When I get my basement finished I am going to probably go crazy and have a portion benched to make the ceilings higher).

So my problem is PW and higher I am liable to have my ball hit the pipe- either the front or back one and come flying back at me. My solution for now has been not ideal- using almost golf balls on those shots. I have tried the foam insulation that is about 1/2 inch thick but it honestly does not do much to slow the ball down. Any one have creative solution I could try to make it safer?

The picture is not mine but it is just what Mine looks like. It from user Bigmean who i got inspiration for my build form.

Look at page 31 of this installation guide.

I bought the whole system but if you look at the instruction you could make the shot defender yourself.

Just looked at the posted document. The "Shot Defender" is less than useful. It's only purpose is to protect you against a ricochet off the horizontal pole. With a lofted wedge, you can hit the ceiling a few feet in front of the pole.

Inability to contain lofted shots is something that I see with most golf sim setups. Moreover, most hitting positions are too far forward to promote an immersive experience. This is likely done in order to deal with the lack of overhead containment.

The only truly correct answer is to build the cage/net out 8-10 feet from the screen. I have a BIG space (giant loft in a barn w/ 12' + ceilings). My hitting position is 10' + from the screen (far more immersive that way instead of having to move your head around to see the entire scene). Only issue is hitting over the screen, bigtime.

When I get a chance in the next few weeks, I'm finally going to build overhead containment, nearly all the way to the projector. I'm going to do a mockup with landscape fabric first. If that works out, I'm going to have it done in blackout fabric.

Almost Golf is your solution until you can fix the basement.

This is also a huge point to anyone building a house. Insist that the basement be dug an extra foot deep. Honestly, I would insist on 2-3 feet deeper depending on cost. Gives you far more options for golf, a gym, etc.
