I bought a Optoma HD 142x. My wall that I will project on is 14' wide. My projector will be about 9 feet from wall. Is this a good setup or do I need different projector?

Go to projectorcentral.com. Search for your projector. This will calculate the associated image size based on throw distance capability of your projector.

So if I can only get 9 feet away from the wall this won't work?

I have a short throw that is 10’7” from screen. It projects a 14 x8 picture. Play with the calculator to see what you can get out of 9 ft. I believe you can use the scroll bar to adjust how far from screen you want then it will tell you what size picture you can get

From 9ft with maximum zoom you will get 7ft diagonal image, which is approx 6ft1 wide x 3ft5 high. You should be looking at short throw projectors from that sort of range.

I have Optima 1080GT Darbee with a 15’ x 8.5’ image and it is about 7.5 ft from screen.
