  • DIY Garage Skytrak Golf Sim Build

Like many I have been researching on this great site and starting a DIY skytrak build. Many thanks to those who have detailed there builds! I have been using https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum...ld-version-3-0 as a template as I really like the idea of an oversize screen you could move when a wear spot or hole develops. I will update when I get farther along with photos, issues, etc.

Have my screen frame built and in place but wanted to make sure I build the correct size side curtains. The differences in size vary greatly from one build to another on this site so leaning on some past experience from you guys.
Screen size is 12ft wide x 9ft high. The hitting mat will be 10ft from screen and centered in middle of screen. Have a combination of buddies from very low to high duffers who will using my sim. I want to make sure the side curtains are out far enough to catch a skull shot, but not too far out to get in anybody's swing path. Tallest buddy playing with us is 6'5" and has relatively flat swing for a tall guy. Many thanks for any assistance or info you can provide!

So we finally got close to finished with the build and I hate to say it...but I hate skytrak. We have played with this unit for three days and cannot dial it in. I LOVE the irons. They are spot on as far as yardage and path. Woods suck. Just flat out suck no matter where you place the ball. Driver, 3 wood, 4 hybrid; teed up, off the mat doesn't matter as it is not close to accurate. Chip shots within 30 yards do not register and any putt inside of 20ft is three green bars no matter where you place the ball. I average 265 with a driver and am average 210 on skytrak. Completely nutted a drive and it was 245. My fade driver shot goes 50 yards right and my draw driver goes 50 yards left.
I have researched all the issues with driving with skytrak but the putting is really pissing me off. No matter what we do it will not register a soft putt inside 20ft. I have leveled this unit so many times and changed the ball placement in regards to the red dot, I am dreaming about red dots. The hitting mat is secure and it doesn't matter if its a right or left hand as it will not see the putt.

So, either I get this unit figured out or move up to a GC or protee mfg. Any input would be appreciated as I cannot read any more posts on fixes as we have tried everything. It doesn't matter if its the skytrak app or E6 golf as the driver, long woods, short chips and putts all do the same thing. Using logo overrun DT trusoft balls and the logo placement does not matter. Any help or assistance would be appreciated!!!

Photos and notes on my build so far. 12x9-1/2 screen. Not even in the same ballpark as some of the builds on this site, but its not too bad for practice or a round when the weather isn't cooperating.
Skytrak monitor but could go to another mfg if I cannot get this dialed in per the above. Projector is a Benq HT2150ST refurb that I got off ebay. Hitting platform is on a 4x6ft 3/4" rubber mat with gel insert. The rest is 3/4" EVA foam 2x2 mats. The grass is synlawn precision putt remnants that I bought from the local synlawn rep. Very nice to hit from with the gel insert and putts well and fast. Screen was direct from mill from this site, very crisp and highly recommend. Wrapped around PVC pipe with extra for the future and attached with tarp clips and bungees. Sides are EMT covered with remnant marine or auto fabric with stiff backing, and secured by tent/canopy 90deg elbows. The emt goes behind the pvc and is zip tied on the top and bottom. I am putting a foam section between the pvc and cloth as a ball could get through this if someone hit a hosel rocket. Have a shallow cup to put in but going to wait until I get the putting issues with skytrak fixed. For some reason I cannot upload the photos without it turning them 90degs. And when I spin 90deg on jpeg they still upload sideways. Any suggestions on a fix would be welcomed.

I am not a good golfer by any means, but I find my Skytrak to be pretty accurate to the GC2 used at the indoor range I go to.

I was using the E6 as a guide. Went to a friend of a friend who has a skytrak sim and he helped me on some dialing in issues. Uploaded TGC and it seems much more accurate than E6 (only did the trial versions so who knows). My drives are still short vs what I hit in real life but maybe inside swing. Weird that I hit a 6 iron around 90mph and the same with a driver and 3 wood.

Tested eight different drivers today with no positive outcomes on both mine, and buddies teeing up drivers. Consistent 3 woods of 240-250 and drivers in the 200-220 range. We have tried different skytrak height, every conceivable ball location, and multiple drivers. Even have a lefty and he is not hitting the driver anywhere close to a 3 wood. I purposely had many overswings where I was just trying to hit the ball as hard as possible, and it still had a low to mid 80s swing speed. Very frustrating and leaning towards a return and a different unit for the future.

Sounds like you have a defective unit. I have a buddy of mine hits 280 - 300 yds on my unit. 268 on a 3 wood. You don't have anything reflective in the background that the unit could pick up by chance?

Send a log of your club and ball speed. Maybe try with a cheap speed radar to see if it matches,

Attached are driver log first. Four different drivers. Some of these drives were nutted and would have been in the 280 range. The titleist driver is an extra stiff shaft from my limber back days when I could really crush the ball. I swung hard with this driver and should have seen much higher swing speeds. The epic is used on a daily basis. The taylormade is used mostly at the coast for windy days as it setup for a lower ball flight. Grabbed an old cleveland driver to see if that made any difference as it has a higher loft. I crushed some of these drives with epic and taylormade and always shot off to the right. I usually play a draw. When I really hooked one it would go to the left.
Next up was callaway 4i. Hit it on skytrak almost as far as driver. A few of these I tried to hit a low stinger for an into the wind shot. Skytrak doesn't like the lower ball flight and would no read about 1 out of every three.
Next up was callaway 6i. The higher the loft of club the more accurate the skytrak gets.

Any help anyone can provide would be appreciated. I am going to take to the range hopefully this week and test. I have teed up in every conceivable way possible, added additional lighting, raised and lowered skytrak, and tried logo, yellow, and soccer balls...nothing helps. Tomahawk tees and combos of up to four stacked to see if loft will get more accurate results.

Side note that I am 6'2", 225lbs, in good shape, and average 265-280 on drives depending on conditions. Not a scratch golfer but not a hack.
