I currently have my Skytrak setup in my unfinished basement, and the ceiling height is around 9' 6 1/2" from the top of my mat. I'm now looking to finish my space, so with drywall and resilient channel I'm figuring around 9' 5" from the top of my mat... Does anyone see any issues with this clearance?? If so, I was considering sistering 2x8s along my ijoists and then trimming them up a few inches?? Looking to talk with an engineer to figure out the best solution to that idea...

How tall are you? I am 6’1” and my previous setup which had 9’6” of clearance was fine. -
If you are average height, or as jrz mentions you should have no issues with a driver, I’m 5’11” with 9ft ceilings in my unfinished basement. Can swing driver no problem. Good luck and happy hitting!Comment

Instead of drywall in the sim area, maybe just have the ceiling spray painted black. A friend just did his finished basement and instead of drywall had it painted and it actually looks pretty nice.Comment

I just did this exact thing in my basement. My ceiling height is 9’ 6”. The black paint hides everything and keeps the room darker for a projector.

I'm in a similar position as I start my build. Sound proofing is of much importance to me as well. My space is very similar to your and here's what I was thinking of doing:
For the majority of the ceiling I would use insulation and drywall for the soundproofing (potentially with some resilient channel). For my hitting area specifically I was going to leave an opening that is not drywalled, as small as possible that accommodates for all swings. In this area I'd have have the insulation between the floor joists as well and I'd run some MuteX adhered to the bottom of the floor joists. So in the non-drywalled ceiling areas it would look like on solid black covering of MuteX.
I've even thought about maybe in between the floor joists having the insulation and putting in a strip of drywall that is up in between the joists, not below. And wrap the exposed joist bottoms in MuteX.
I'm not an expert by any means, so any feedback is appreciated.Comment

That sounds like a reasonable idea...although I don't know anything about MuteX, so I'll have to look into that. Also, I've seen installations with the drywall sitting on the ledge of the I-Joists, although the sound actually travels through the wood of the I-Joists to the floor above, so not sure that would do as good a job as having drywall attached to resilient channel. The MuteX might resolve that issue though... More research...lol Thanks for the info!!
