I wanted to share my build pictures in the event it might help others with their build. This site has been such a wonderful help and made my build so much easier than had I never found this forum. My room is 13' wide, 18' long and 9.5' tall. I bought the P3Proswing 4 or 5 years ago and intend to upgrade to the GC2 this January. The P3Proswing came with the mat shown in the first picture and I would hit into an old piece of carpet with a white sheet for my projector. This room was in my basement and completely unfinished. Because it was unfinished it seem to just collect junk that we would store in the basement and it always drove me nuts. My lovely wife gave me permission this winter to finish off this room and make it my own "golf room".
God love the internet! Google searches let me to this website and I've addicted since! So these are the stages to my build.
To cut down on cost and time, I decided to paint the ceiling black vs drywall. With a professional sprayer, this took maybe 3 hours to do. I think it turned out great and I don't have to worry about golf balls denting the ceiling. After finishing the dry wall and painting it, I bought charcoal carpet tiles from amazon to put on the left and right wall to help with bad golf shots. My wife plays and six year old son plays, so having the protection on the walls for dents was a must. These were peel and stick tiles and the stick part didn't work too well. After putting them up one night and coming down the next morning to check them out, half the tiles were on the floor. I decided to use double sided tape, and used that to hold the tiles to the wall. The double sided tape seems to be doing a decent job (none have fallen off and its been 2 weeks), but you can see bubbles where the tile has come off the wall where I did not use tape. This method didn't quite work out like I had envisioned, but its working in the mean time. Here is a link to the carpet tiles:
My screen is the preferred 11.5 x 8.5 (4:3) with grommets from Carl's Place, which I also bought from Amazon. I have angle iron on the two side walls and across the top and used 9 inch ball bungees and zip ties to attach the screen to the angle iron. I also zip tied two 36" x 1" pipes (from Lowes) to the bottom of the screen to create weight and remove some wrinkles in the screen. Like in the first picture, I left the carpet hanging from the ceiling behind the screen to help protect the screen and reduce the amount of bounce back. I may decide to put a small twin mattress or something behind the screen to help deaden the sound and hopefully reduce ball indentions. Screen and bungee links below:
My floor for my sim room is still a work in process, and hopefully I haven't put the cart before the horse. For Christmas I have asked for a divot action insert from Custom Design Golf. So as of this write up, I do not have it yet. I spoke with the sales team from Custom Design Golf and found out the divot action mat was 1 1/4" thick. So all of my floor plans have been designed around the 1 1/4" thickness. I purchased 3/4" eva foam mats from Amazon, which have been laid down, and have on order from Home depot 1/2" thick artificial putting turf. I had samples sent from both StarPro greens and Rubber Flooring. The turf from StarPro was much better quality and had a rubberish bottom on it that would keep the turf from sliding. This will lay directly over the EVA foam mats, and once I get my insert I will cut out the mat and turf to insert the divot action mat. I also ordered a 5' strip of 1.75" rough turf that will go in the back of my sim room that I can practice short chips and stuff. My plan is to have about 14' feet of putting turf and 4' of rough. If I was patient enough, I probably should have waited for the divot action mat first, then bought the mats and the turfs so that I could ensure everything would be flush. Oh well... My turf will be here after Christmas and once installed I will post the competed pictures.
I have decided on the GC2 as my simulator, I just haven't purchased it yet. I kind of feel like Clark Griswald from National Lampoons Christmas and spending my Christmas bonus before I get it and the deposit for my GC2 is my simulator build. I haven't decided on software yet, and continue to do research everyday.
So that's it in a nutshell. Hope this helps someone.
