New Garage Build: Need help with use for parking + Sim

Hello,




After being a long time reader, my wife and I have decided to move from our condo into a house. As a result I will eventually have a garage that could be made into a sim! Only moving there much later on so plenty of time now to plan.




Here are the details of the garage:

• 2 car garage: however I can only set up the Sim in 1 part as the other one will have the car at all times. So this means the sim area will run the same dimensions as the car parking spot with a little more width space
• Dimensions: width = 7.62M/25 feet for both parking spots, even though my portion of the parking for the sim would be roughly 3.96M/ 13 feet. Length = 6.86M / 22.5 feet. Height will not be an issue.

Here are some questions that I have that I would like to receive feedback on:

1. Is 13 feet wide enough without me at risk of swinging into my wife’s car in the other garage? I’d ideally like a setup where I don’t have to take her car out of the garage each time I play.

1. Is it possible to create a setup where I can leave the screen on the opposite side of the wall and have thick drapes / nets get pulled around the hitting area for when I would like to play? This way I can always use the garage as parking for my own car and all I would need to do is take the hitting mat away and move the drapes next to the screen.

Any comments on:

1. Does my plan make any sense?
2. Does anyone in the forum have examples / photos of garage sims they would recommend that fits this description?
3. Any recommendations of things you may know that would be beneficial for this plan?

Your dimensions should give you plenty of room. I just dug a 20'x12' hole in my basement to swing in and it is enough. The only downside is that I have to hit off-center a bit, but I don't mind that.

If I understand what your saying, is that you plan on swinging on the 13 feet depth side with the width being 22.5 feet

I have the same type of garage with the 2 separated garage doors but only a total of 20 foot width. So 10 foot is not deep enough unless I move her car each time I want to use it (Which I only have to move it half way out to get the needed space). So I set mine up on the "far side" of your picture but instead of sideways like your thinking I have to go towards the garage door.

Minimum total driver swing space clearance for me is 12 feet which feels really cramped. At 13 feet I have more confidence that I can fully release the driver without worry so optimal for me is 13 feet or more clearance from back-swing to full extension after impact. My net (Haack net) is 2 foot from the wall making a total minimum depth of 15 foot if I plan on hitting driver in the direction your thinking.

Hitting/Impact net/screen from wall = 2 Feet
Mat width = 3 Feet
Clearance from front of hitting mat to net/screen = 5 Feet
Back-swing clearance from back of hitting mat = 5 Feet

So I think you can make this work, you may not be able to use your driver/3 wood depending on your swing clearance needs without moving her car out of the way.

I am really interested in what you decide to do with this space. Maybe you can solve the puzzle and figure out a way that I can mimic what you end up doing!

Sorry I meant that I will be only using my half of the garage —- aka the 22 feet depth and only the width of the 1 garage aka ~13 feet.

I have a setup in half of my garage also so my wife's car can be in garage. Not ideal but can work. I have a net return pro setup with tv and gaming laptop I attached A pic I just took giving u an idea. I always remove my wife's car when hitting, don't want to risk an errant dent/ broken window from a bad shot. Drapes between the bay's may help this but may crimp width. With my wife's car removed I can hit to center of net return without offset. Also if u have others playing gives them a place to stand between shots. Search on here for garage setups plenty of ideas

So far these have been the best ideas I’ve seen from the forum:

I’d ideally prefer a solution where the drapes go all the way down so there is no risk of a shank going into my wife’s car.

if anyone has any other suggestions I’d love to hear it!

Glad you liked my idea of a net that retracts to the ceiling when not in use (second picture above). It works out really well for a setup that has to be taken down when not using but the cars do have to be moved outside. Any questions feel free to reach out to me

Also what are dimensions? Curious why you decided to go the width of the garage door instead of putting the net on the opposite side of the garage door?

Oh and last thing.... did you have an option to have an electric garage door opener? I can’t see it in the photo.

The net on the right side is about a foot away from the wall. There is a padded PVC framework attached to the bottom of the netting all the way around to give it some weight so when (not if) I shank one to the right it does not hit the wall.

Overall dimensions are 10' wide by 15' long. It is actually running perpendicular to the garage doors/tracks so the tracks for the doors are completely out of the way. Hard to tell from the picture but if you were pulling into the garage through the overhead doors you would be looking at the side of the enclosure

If you have time to post multiple photos of your garage setup.... when the net is up + how it looks next to the rails of the garage id be curious to see.
