  • Garage Build 1.1

    Hi guys,

I've been lurking on this for for over 2 years now and initially having a simulator was a dream I never thought would come true. Thanks to this forum and it members this dream has finally become a reality. The main purpose of this post is to say thank you to the members and their post and hopefully be able to return the favor and help someone else. I started building around February 2018 and finally after some trial and error, I've found a setup that I am happy with for now haha. The setup was made in the garage but it couldn't be permanent as I still need to use the garage on occasion. The beauty of the build is that I can roll up the turf, remove the tiles and have a usable garage in a matter of minutes. I built a frame with 2x4 and attached angle iron to mount the screen, which I used par2pro's SQ screen. I am extremely happy with it, but I don't have any experience with any other screen. One of the best features is that I don't have to have anything hanging behind it. The bounce back is good maybe about 2 ft at most and the screen is relatively quite, the sound of a ball hitting the driver is way more of a concern that the ball hitting the screen. . For the sides I chose curtains so it could easily be retracted when needed. I also have some netting across the top to stop any skied shots. One of the best things about this is that there is a 2 inch strip of Velcro around the screen which the netting and curtains attach to , this takes away any chance of a ricochet from the angle iron or 2x4's. For the floors i used 3/4 inch thick EVA tiles and on top is strips of STI NP45 that I duct taped together. Right now I am hitting off of the NP 45 until it wears out and then I will either drop in a piece of STI EZtee , a DIY Divot action or a Fiberbuilt hitting strip I haven't fully decided. I originally built a stance mat with plywood but I didn't like it at the plywood keep warping, also it wasn't as clean looking as it is now. For the PC I didn't go crazy, i3 with GTX1060 and IMO it runs great, if anyone needs more info about the PC , please ask. I use a Skytrak and I bought the metal case, I was debating not getting it but I am so glad I did. I think i had at least 4 people hit it, it is definitely worth every penny. I think that about wraps it up, Thanks again guys and Happy golfing!!

Very cool, congrats! Is the aspect ratio of your image 16:9 or 4:3? It looks to possibly be 16:9. You likely know this but if you switch to 4:3, for a nine foot wide image you get 20 extra inches of image height in 4:3 versus 16:9. Either way, that's a nice, clean build!

That was my first thought too. My first build was widescreen on a near square screen, and had huge black borders at the top / bottom. I changed my second build to 4:3 and it made a much better use of the screen.
My third build has a 15’ x 9’ screen, so I’ve now finally gone widescreen.

Anyway - nice use of space above. Looks really good.

Looks great! Do you mind private messaging me specicifics of your order from par2pro? I am in the middle of building my first simulator at also must be in a space that functions as a garage for car parking.
          Thanks.

Thanks guys, I actually never thought of 4:3 as I was always thinking of going 16:9. Anyways I’ll give it a try and let you know how it works out.

I think you'll like it. Due to space limitations, I'm set at 4:3 and it feels more immersive. Yeah, please let us know and if you can post a pic with the image in 4:3 it be cool to see the difference.

Got a chance to try it out this weekend, I like the wide view but I think I prefer having the larger image. It's really is way more immersive. Thanks for the suggestion guys!!

The wide view is nice, but the 4:3 definitely fills the screen better, and leaves you with a much smaller border. More immersive as the image is now to the floor.
What’s the red band down the middle? A target line?

The red line is a laser level to center my skytrak

I liked it at 16:9 but I am loving it at 4:3 !!

Any issues with the garage door opener in your swing path.

I have a similar setup and am trying to think of different ways to get around this.

                  Looks great!

I actually had it replaced with a jackshaft garage door opener
                Working...
