My 2019 Sim Build

Well, the journey has started. I received my first Mat today and will probably be just be a temporary mat to hit into a net that is coming next week I am told. I am gathering pricing and ideas from this forum for my future build.
Alot to digest and reflect on the end goal. I need to take time and enjoy the journey also though.
Thinking about teeing it up and hitting one here, but probably not wise unless I have some type of helmet and/or cup which I don't here. Plus I need to cover up that window, I guess I can get started doing that as I don't need any light coming in from there.

Looks like 2019 is gonna be a good year for you!!! I just got mine up and running yesterday and am very excited. Good luck in your build. I have been buying pieces since August to try and find things to meet my budget. Ended up going way over on launch monitor but happy with end result. I’ve had to dual purpose my home theatre projector and just a hiring mat for now because of it. I’ll keep picking away as I can and get a completely finished product eventually but for now I can whack balls in the basement and that’s good for me!!

Well, i pulled the trigger a few weeks ago with my build. I purchased a used cg2 and hmt from a member on this site, and all of the other items from Par2pro. I just got the underlay done tonight. Will try and install the putting turf in the next few days. Final goal is to get it up and running hopefully by end of October when the weather starts to turn for the worse.
I still have questions about what i should build (slight ramp) from the back side of the fiberbuilt mat as i can see people tripping when approaching from the rear. And many other details are completely unclear in my mind like, computer location, maybe a touch screen? Speaker system, etc... But its a fun journey and things will hopefully come together, as i started this journey in jan. 19.

Just a thought. You may want to get comfortable with where you are hitting from before cutting any turf. My roll of turf is still sitting in the garage because I have moved my mat around. For example moved it closer for wedges. Glad I didn't cut it.

Interesting point, i am about 9 feet from the back wall to the front of the fiber built, which puts me about 11 feet from the front of the fiberbuilt matt to the front wall. I am guessing i will be about 10 feet from the front of the fiberbuilt mat to the actual hitting screen. My issue is, am i really going to have buddies that are left handed come over and hit in my sim? I thought maybe i should shift my fiberbuilt more to the right just to have more room, but currently i am centered in the complete room. I still can swing any club i think ok here, but it would give more cushion i suppose, but i thought being symmetrical would be better from an appearance stand point with the screen, etc...
I haven't cut it yet, but want to in the next few days.

Ok, i finally got around to finishing up my turf. Now working on the angle iron for the screen mounting. Slow and unsteady i guess but it is at least some progress. Playing too much golf outside and socializing a lot afterwards, so by the time i get home i am beat and just want to hit the hay. However, it really is getting darker much sooner now and it should be coming together nicely before the deep freeze sets in.

what kind of putting surface do you have in front of the fiberbuilt hitting mat? I am just starting to build my own sim as well...

Ok, been working on the project a bit now.
I have a question i would like to open up here.
I have mounted this projector about 15 feet from my screen. One thing i didn't account for is that when the family walks around up in the living room above this golf simulator room. The screen bounces around a bit, as they are right above me and they are disturbing my projector here. I am thinking of figuring out a way to possibly brace to this back wall, plus i want to put some safety chains or straps, so the projector doesn't come flying down on my head someday if they have a dance party upstairs.
Any ideas and thoughts our there would be appreciated!

Been a long and fun journey, getting real close to the finished product.

What size is your back wall and what size screen did you go with? You went with Par2Par for that as well?

For the putting turf, how hard was it to cut the mat to get such clean lines for matching up the hitting mat? I like the inlay aspect, but cutting that much turf to make it fit would be hard to do, financially speaking!

My total back wall is 14'6"x 10'4"high, the screen from Par2Par was 13'x 8'2".
Putting turf wasn't that bad, yes, it takes some strong arming to wrestle with it. I used a utility knife and a really heavy duty scissors-industrial type. The side walls for the turf doesn't have to be exact as the curtains cover all that stuff up anyway. I mean, i wasn't more than 3/4" of inch away from the wall, but it wouldn't matter due to you never seeing that area once the side curtains are in.
Around the fiberbuilt matt, There what you do is cut a slit every 6" or so and curl the turf back down to the ground and finish nail the turf into the side of the inlay. I did an alright job, but in no way was it perfect, i could take some close up photos for you of this if you wanted? I'll be back sunday if you would like for me to get some close ups?

Overall, i will take some more photos of the finished job in the next week, showing different spots in the room perhaps. Hopefully, i find some time to use this room, as that appears to be my biggest issue now.

Looks great... Did you end up getting the Bello AV cabinet?... Did it work for your application?

Yes, still on the road.
I purchased that cabinet, exactly what i was looking for, thanks so much for your recommendation!
If i ever get home, i would like to take more good quality photos and post here, and it would be great to actually play and hit some balls in this nice room. But thanks again sully, this forum sure has helped out tremendously for this project
