I have been reading all kinds of posts on here for the past year and am finally getting to finishing my build. First off like to thank everyone for their ideas and pictures. I have a 12' wide room by 19' deep and 9' 8" ceilings. I have a skytrak unit wired with a Touchscreen TV and monitor beside the hitting area on the wall. I decided to go with a super bay system with HD material from allprosports system and the 5' sides. The hitting mat is a 5' x 5' CCE that is recessed into the floor so it is flush with the turf that is all One Putt PL306 in the room. I'd really like to have a true 4K projector for this system (especially with TGC 2019 coming out). As I actually own a home theater store, I have access to all kinds of high end home theater projectors, but none of these seem to fit the throw distance or brightness needed (without spending crazy money on a special short throw lens). I currently have everything wired at about a 7.5' throw distance from the screen. Just wondering if anyone has tried more of the home theater style projectors, or has any recommendations on a short throw 4k capable? Also does a touchscreen monitor even come in use with any of the sim programs or worthless?

Caudio18 I have the BenQ HT1085ST projector. It is mounted 10 ft high and 10 ft from screen. This projector is a couple years old. Looks like the new model that replaced this one is the BenQ HT2150ST. This one is on Amazon at: https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-HT2150ST...dp_ob_title_ce
These both have short throw ratio at .69 - .83. These will throw a very large screen at a shorter distance than other short throw projectors. When buying a short throw projector, pay attention to this ratio. You could easily buy another short throw projector and would need more than 10 feet distance from screen to fill a 15 ft wide screen.
I would not look into 4K projectors right now. The cost is high and don't think it is worth it. A 1080p resolution will look great on a good quality impact screen using a good projector. I used to have a higher lumens Optoma projector. Then I got a BenQ. The BenQ blows away the Optoma I had. I HIGHLY recommend a BenQ. The best setup I believe is a 1080p BenQ set at 16:10. This will give you more height in your image. Since you have 12 ft wide, you will need to mount your projector to fit the 12 ft wide, but the sacrifice will be height. You will want to test and move your projector in different distances away from screen to see what works best. You will want to test a 16:10 format, then 16:9 and then 4:3. The 4:3 will give you the most height on a 12 ft wide screen. I personally like 16:10 format the best. The wider format looks much better and plays more realistic than a 4:3 box format. Best advice is get a BenQ short throw and test out your projector before making final decision. If you go with 12 ft wide screen you can change your offset in TGC so you can have center line offset more to right.-
ThomasMac I have the BenQ HT1085ST projector. It does have 16:10 aspect ratio and that is what I use for my sim. The BenQ HT2150ST is the model that replaced it. I checked the user manual for 1085ST and it doesn't list 16:10 Aspect Ratio. I also checked user manaul on the HT2150ST and it doesn't show 16:10 Aspect Ratio. All I can tell you is my 1085ST does have 16:10. I would assume the HT2150ST also does, but can't guarantee it. If you are considering this projector I would say buy it and return it if it doesn't. But I'm going to say it most likely does since my 1085ST does.

4k projectors are super expensive and short throw are even more money and hard to find I have been looking myself but have not found anything that fits my needs and I am also not willing to pay 2k + ...... 1080p is fine for me for now, I am running an Optoma GT1080Darbee and have been pleased with the picture. If you find a good short throw 4k projector please post cause I would be interested.Comment

I had this pointed out to me but a 4k projector is only as good as the material you project onto. I am not sure that there are any screens out there on the market that would be worth trying to project the 4 k image onto. Almost all screens bleed through light and are possibly not tightly woven enough in order to get the benefit.
This is just my opinion....
Good Luck with your choice but I would recommend either of the 2 listed above for value for money and performance.

This is true, unfortunately my background is in home theater screen materials rated for 4K and 8K from the high end home theater world and although some of my clients have installed high end golf simulators never really had a chance to see the picture on impact screens or compare the same projector on the different materials. I am looking at the 4k550ST but I have never really been a fan of optoma projectors.Comment

Not 4K but Optoma EH415ST is cheap and better than 1080GT for lumens. Throws a 14”10” wide picture from just over 7’Comment

I installed a BenQ MW632ST projector because I wanted a 16:10 aspect ratio and that is the unit BenQ recommended. It works great. I have a 13' wide by 8' high screen and I mounted the projector on the ceiling ten feet from the screen. It fills the entire screen and I couldn't be happier.Comment
