  • New Sim Build - Phase 1 Done

It's been a long time coming but here's pics of phase one of my sim build. Thank to all the support and ideas that came from this great forum.

    Some Details:
    • Ceiling Height: 8' 8" at mat
    • Sim: Skytrak and JNPG
    • Impact Screen: First run of direct from the mill (yes I've had this in a box for a very long time!). Behind the screen I have a net and a 1" memory foam mattress topper
    • Projector: BenQ Th671ST
    Next Steps
    • I need to add a solid white sheet behind the impact screen and in front of the net. The net is black and it shows through a bit, plus I think I'm getting some marks coming through on the white screen from rubbing against the black net on ball impact
    • Complete finishing the basement (drywall, wet bar, flooring, etc).
Let me know your thoughts for improvement and if you have any questions.

Nice build! To stop balls from sneaking out above the screen, I recommend using cheap thin carpet on ceiling and then hang down the screen. To finish your ceiling I would add plywood, then use air compressor staple gun and staple 2ft x 2ft interlocking foam pads to ceiling. Then staple the carpet to ceiling and let maybe a ft extra hand down the screen. This will seal the top so balls can't escape.

Here is my post showing this:

Hey! I'm finally back to sim golfing! Just finished my new build! I moved to a new house and haven't had my golf sim for a year or more. A lot of work has been done

Mike80 - good ideas. I still have a ways to go, but my plan was to double drywall the ceiling and then put some carpet tiles. I'm not concerned about losing height directly in front of the screen. I need to go with the double drywall since the wife demanded that I soundproof the room as much as possible. I've seen some nice ways to trim out the screen, but I'll probably take your cheap carpet suggestion in the interim until I finish up the drywall and soundproofing steps.

I have an unfinished basement area too. How wide is your space?

I'm about 13'2" feet wide currently (before the studs were up I had 13'6"). I'll lose a few more inches with the drywall. I use JNPG and I'm offset about 2.5 feet to the right of center.

Thanks. I was wondering about the offset too.
