  • Attaching Impact Screen to Studs

I've had my phase 1 of my sim done now for a few weeks and realize that I can probably move the screen back 6-8 inches and gain some extra space in my room. If I move it back I'm now off the studs that I placed originally. I was thinking of two options:

    1) Install two new vertical studs in the location I want (6-8 inches further back)
    2) Install horizontal blocking between the existing studs (as identified by the red lines in the attached pic)

What I'm not sure about is if the horizontal blocking will be as sturdy as vertical studs when it comes to attaching the angle iron and subsequently the tightening of the impact screen/net/backing.
Any thoughts from those in the know of these types of things? I personally think it would be fine but looking for someone with more experience to confirm.
    Thanks!

Horizontal blocking would as good or better IMO, as long as secured correctly to vertical studs. Many carpenters frame houses/walls like this.

If you nogging (possibly a English term for blocking out)it out it will be very strong as it ties the structure together and is very stable. It is how I built my simulator shed walling. It will also give you extra fixing points.
