Anyone have an apartment build? I understand driver would be too loud likely, but it seems like with irons it should be reasonably quiet. I would assume adding a net instead of impact screen would quiet things down. I guess next concern is thump of hitting mat. Thoughts?

Before I bought my house, I had my sim setup in a top floor apartment. To keep it quiet, I hit into a net with lots of slack, and projected the image on the side wall. What I found out later, was the sound of the balls dropping down to the floor after hitting the net was very loud below. The super contacted me to tell me there were several complaints. But that was solved with lots of padding under the net.
Another issue, if you find a quiet enough impact screen, would be how you install it. If you screw mounting positions directly into the walls, the vibrations will transfer through the structure. Using an independent metal frame would help isolate it.
You might even be able to hit driver, if you use super soft balls. The sound of hitting a Wilson Duo is vastly different than hitting a ProV.

What about the neighbours of the apartments adjacent to yours? Either from your building or other buildings, side by side to yours, and therefore (wall to wall to your apartment)? They did not complain? I was really thinking to buy a sim, with enclosure, impact screen etc, but the comments regarding the noise in the forum are making me reconsider even to put just a net.

It really depends on the acoustic properties of your room and the wall construction. I had a concrete block wall between me and the side neighbors. So, the only complaints came from below. Why not buy a cheap net, and start testing. If nobody complains within a week or two... then go forward with a full blown sim.

Interesting that the sound of the ball hitting the ground is the reason for complaints, not the sound of striking the golf ball. I measured the decibels of hitting an almost golf ball using an app called NIOSH and it was 95 with a peak of 123. Gonna try with a range ball and a callaway super soft soon. There's a site that says iron shots are 80 db while a titanium driver is 95...although another site says drivers can reach 120. Not sure what's right, anyone have an idea?Originally posted by m3w View PostBefore I bought my house, I had my sim setup in a top floor apartment. I'm trying to think of how I can hit iron shots in a condo. I'm thinking I should find a place with a corner bedroom, which probably takes care of all the walls, since none would be shared with a neighbor. I'd just have the floor and ceiling to worry about. I would layer the floor with carpet and yoga mats and something even softer where the balls drop, but is there concern about bothering upstairs neighbors?
