  • New swing room ideas. Triangular cage, rather than rectangle/ square?

    Hi All,

Finally got my extension built, so hopefully no more hitting balls in the garden. I've got a couple of ideas and thought I would run them by you guys, if any of you could help.

I've attached a drawing I put together which will lay things out better, there's no key, so:
Red line (outside line) is internal wall, room is 4.6m x 3.6m (roughly 14ft x 11ft).
Red line on the left staggered in about 200mm is an overhang (the steel beam to hold the roof in is in here, and that goes all the way around except is in the wall above the wall for the rest of the room).
Orange boxes at the bottom are an option of where my desk is going, I've got an old table in there at the minute which is similar size
Green lines, this is my mat, the position of my feet and rough swing area when using a hybrid, although if I can use anything up to 5/6 iron I'll be happy enough.
Pink lines, are effectively my idea for a half cube, on the diagonal. effectively like a half hitting cage/ net.

Is this half cube/ triangle a bad idea? I can't really see any negatives to it to be honest? It's practically fully enclosing me and my swing plane shouldn't interfere with it. I'm about 5'8" and thinking of having this about 2m/ 6.5 ft. That way I can fit it onto the opposite corner of the room too, under the roof beam if need be. The only reason I wouldn't want it in that corner is that's where I hope to have my TV and projector on the wall.

Not bothered about left handers, I'm a righty and I don't have any golfer buddies who are lefties. I would effectively be hitting towards some expensive doors/ glass so I'll add some extra protection behind the screen etc.

I've got two archery nets 3.1 x 1.8m, which I had from practising in the garden, which I'm hoping to use. I'll probably have them tight to the edge in the danger corner and something to overlap.

First use of the room is an office, as I work from home and need the big desk for three screens etc. Second use is man cave, third use is swing room for winter mainly. I've got a projector but can't figure out a way of putting it to use in the centre of one of the walls, and also having the desk in there.

Don't really want something permanent in there, or can't be hidden easily and want to be able to see out of the doors during the day, as I need the natural light when I'm at work, or I get moody.

    Anybody got any other ideas?

I don't think you added the drawing. I only see two images, none had lines added, from what i could see.

Personally, I think I’d switch it round. Have to desk in front of the door in the opposite corner (you’ve still got the other door); and have a full width (3.6m) wide impact screen on the wall. If you don’t want it to be permanent you could hang it from a cable, so it can be drawn back. A full width projected image will be awesome.

What you've said there was my first idea to be honest.

The doors cascade over to the right hand side, and fold out (if you're looking from the inside), so wouldn't interfere with the desk, no matter what side it's on. But no matter what I would need to use the door towards the top left, as it's the only way in etc.

So if the desk went on the LH side I would maybe have to make the desk around 800mm (which is no problem, and move it away from the door a little, which is also no problem). This has the advantage of me being sat near the window during the day too, which I like Could also use any club if it's located here.

What concerned me was using an impact screen for movies as well, or maybe just having two screens, possibly interchangeable? I was going to put a big TV on that wall as well, but I can easily remove this when using the sim. I'm not sure how I would protect it otherwise, or what space I would need between the TV and impact screen? I want the TV as it will likely be on when I'm working, so wouldn't want to be burning out the projector with loads of use.

If I had the desk top right then the mat would need to be nearer the screen/ wall, so likely only around 250mm for a safety margin, not a lot, lol.

            Alternate layouts attached.
