  • Questions for cage assembling and disassembling time

I am inspired by the pictures of custom built simulators and ready to start my own project.
Like many of you my biggest challenge is finding a space and that requires, in my case, convincing my wife to install in our very large, but, hardly utilized living room.
Her requirement is that I need to take the simulator down when we have a large party which happens about one in 3 months.
I have following questions and would like your recommendations:
    1. If I build a cage using carl's fitting, how long would you say to dissemble the cage and put it back together again?
    2. The Net Return Pro net seems to be easy to assembled & disassembled. Is NRP net stable and strong enough to hang a projection impact screen?
    3. If taking down and putting together takes over an hour, I would probably go with an NRP net with a 40 - 50 inch monitor on the side. This is subjective but I wonder how much simulator experience would I loose by having a monitor on the side vs. having projected on an impact screen. Any of your feedbacks and insights are appreciated.

    I can answer number 3...

Right now I play without any screen or projector. I have a TV off to the side. Honestly, Its not a big deal. Would I prefer to have a projected image... Yes. Do I really feel like spending another couple grand... No... I'd rather save that and put it towards TGC2019 sim software and a new computer. Right now I just run the ST Play and Improve package off of a crappy PC i built 7 or so years ago. I have a projector in my theater in my basement (Unfortunately my ceiling height is just not enough for my golf swing) and I won't be moving that any time soon.

Perhaps in the future if and when I move, I'll try to find a house with tall basements so I can have a multi-purpose theater/golf sim. But for now my garage sim is perfect for my skill and budget level.

      Thanks, SkeetShooter
I am leaning toward your suggestion since it gives me the flexibility of moving the sim set up to other location from the living room.

I would say a solid 30 minutes to disassemble, store, and then reassemble a cage.

Net Return Pro is not strong enough to hang a projection screen from. It would also be a pretty small screen.

I started out hitting into a custom netted cage with a monitor on the side. It was fine. But then I upgraded to hitting into a screen. The TV is fine but it doesn't compare.

Best advice I can give is to be creative with your space. I started out building a custom retractable EMT frame setup. I didn't like the assembly time and having to see it when disassembled. I totally scrapped it and used tension cable to hang a screen with a net behind it. Takes me less than 3 minutes to set up or take down. It all goes into a storage bin and all you see are a few little eyehole screws in the side walls.

Thanks for the advice. You gave me a different perspective of how I might approach the whole design.
          Thanks again...
