  • Carpet Tiles on Side Wall and Ceiling

A few years ago a forum user had their sim room walls and ceiling covered in carpet tiles. I loved the look and plan to use it in my basement sim but have been unable to get a hold of him. Question is what do you all think would be the best way to adhere the carpet tiles to the drywall? The tiles I have are not self adhesive, and if they were I don't think that would hold, especially on the ceiling. Could I get away with a heavy duty Loctite or contrsuction grade Gorilla Glue? I also have an adhesive that is designed for acoustic ceiling tiles, but not sure if that is better than construction adhesive. I'll try to staple as well but until I get them up I'm not sure if staples will be visible.

I used carpet tiles for both my ceiling and walls. The tiles have an adhesive but it really isn't strong enough to adhere long term. My base was plywood so I used an industrial stapler to secure the tiles, one in each corner. Initially I was concerned that the staples would show but if you use a good stapler the staples will largely be hidden in the carpet knap. I was really happy with how it turned out.

I’m the member with the carpet tiles. They are all crown stapled using a air driven staple gun. You can’t see the staples at all.

Thanks guys! This may be a really basic question, but I would be stapling the carpet tiles to drywall, will staples hold or do I need to careful to find a stud?

mthunt, I didn't realize that was your sim room. I had sent a message to user 'Jfbhd4'. Thanks again for the feedback!!

Drywall will not hold it, and I don't think the studs will be close enough together to do the job IMO.

You could try using velcro if you are attaching to drywall.

By chance would any of you with carpet tiles on walls and/or ceilings please post some photos? I'm super curious as to what that looks like. Also, do you do this for sound reduction or for aesthetics?

mthunt , what size staples did you use? I put mine up with just the adhesive and they all fell off the wall! Never owned a crown stapler and there are a lot of choices. BTW, if your located in Toronto, I would be happy to rent your tool. I do own a compressor.

I’m in Oakville. Crown staples sink the staple below the carpet tile so you can’t see them. You couldn’t find one if you tried. I think I used 5/8 crown staples. I tried the glue and gave up. What a mess.

I just ordered an 18 gauge crown stapler with 1/2 and 5/8 inch staples. Thanks for the advice.

Looking to add carpet walls. Was wondering what kind of carpet others have used that both looks good and keeps the ball from bouncing back at you. Wanting to go the carpet tile route but they are really thin and makes me wonder if they stop the ball good enough

The bottom line is the ball is always moving forward no matter what so there is no way for it to bounce back if the walls are flat. It's bounce into the screen. It happens when some crappy golfers come over.
