  • Uk Garage Build

Like so many others i must start by thanking everyone who has posted on here as you have been the inspiration for my build and the reason i changed my plan probably 15 times during the planning phase.
I have a double garage in the UK measuring 5.5m x 6m with 2.5m ceiling joist. The hitting area is in front of 1 of the large garage doors which we do not use so i had no issues with projector placement blocking this door.

I purchased a second hand Optishot with Jagmanjo turf, my screen is 2.4m x 2.3m Archery screen from Phil at HybridMe and gives a good picture with the cheap projector i am using from Amazon with the software running on my old Macbook Pro. So far im loving being able to practice during the evening as a young family means I'm only getting to the course once a week and having a number of courses to play is a huge bonus. Still playing around with the lighting over hitting area to improve accuracy but feel it is getting close to real life distance and shape.

I built a sub base using 32mm timber and 9mm MDF with Foam Tiles under the artificial turf. I cut holes for putting cups and the Optishot which with the thick hitting turf sits level with the rest of the area. I have hung 2 x Kingsize Duvets behind the screen which is attached to CLS studwork using metal brackets and ball bungees through the eye lets which come as standard on the screen from HybridMe. I added Heavy Duty Curtains on the sides as well as thick black faux leather on ceiling and i used industrial Velcro to attach these to the screen to hide all of the bungees and edges.
The size of my screen and whole set up was dictated by the ball position allowing me to swing driver between joists, as i wanted to stay centered to the screen I plan on having 2 of the joists altered and moved up 2ft but need to organise a structural engineer to oversee this. The set up works fine for me but i would be unable to have friends swing more than a hybrid until the alterations are made.
TV on the wall is an old 32inch Samsung which can mirror the projector but most of the time i have it showing the Golf or Football.

    A few lessons i learnt:
Attaching protection to the ceiling and ensuring this gives a straight line along the edge of the picture on the screen was the most difficult part and is really a 3 or 4 person job.
The turf i used is slightly quicker than a putting green but rolls very smooth. This has ripped slightly in front of the hitting area which i leave folded out of the way during play.

    Future plans
I plan to upgrade in a year or 2 to Skytrak with TGC and a better projector and gaming PC.
Enclose unit under the TV with custom doors and sides.
Build a golf club holder at the back of the garage, any suggestions would be appreciated.
