Hey Guys, I wanted to give back as I used a lot of the info from this site to help design my golf room. Here are some pics, data, specs and costs associated with my room. If you have any other questions please ask. I also worked with Tim Gillis at Foresight for some recommendations on screen, projector, mats, etc.
My room is 20' x 14'3" by 9'8". My screen is hung 1' from the front wall. I hit 9' from the screen. My projector is behind me mounted 16'6" from the wall. I didnt go with the short throw projector, I'm not sure why but I like this setup. The black walls you see in the pic are 8' long. I had hard impact drywall, then plywood, then carpet mounted on these walls and ceilings. The ceilings are 3 panels. My builder framed it with 2'x4' black painted strips around. I mounted the screen on simple J-hooks screwed into a 2x4 on the ceiling and L-brackets down the side with some black bungee cords I bought with the screen.
Sim - GC2 with Pebble Beach - $9150
Screen - Carls Premium screen 13' x 10' - $1050
Mat - Tartar Golf GT Plus - $625 (this is an awesome mat I would highly recommend it)
PC Tower - Dell 1080 Nvidia Card, 16GB Ram - $1600
Projector - Panasonic PTVZ585N - $1900 recommended by Foresight
I added that ball holder - I think it was $60. I think this is a nice feature for the room.
Desk (Small metal frame) to hold the keyboard - $90 (Amazon)
TOTAL above is $14,475.
I bought some black fabric and pinned it up around the screen to cover the J hooks and L-brackets down the side. I used the same black fabric to cover the small desk under the TV. The room has basic very low green carpet. It's actually good enough to practice your putting on and groove your stroke.
One thing to note is Carls screen have to be hung with a certain side forward. Both sides look identical and I didn't know this until I saw a little 2" x 3" insert in the box AFTER I had hung the screen and Yes I did hang the wrong side to the front. Here's why it's important. The grommet holes are not the same if you flip the screen, nor are the grommets the same on the bottom as the top so I had to completely redrill all the holes for the J-Hooks and rehang the screen.
As commented by others, I also do not play a lot of rounds down here but I do religiously hit balls 1-2 hours a days. (Im down to a single hour now as I was getting texts from my wife wondering if I was ever going to come upstairs ) The GC has a nice IMPROVE feature where you can pick a certain par 3 and hit ball after ball. I went through all the par3s on the courses that came with the GC2 and noted the distances for each hole and from each Tee. I included a picture for those of you that have theGC2 as well. I find this very useful when I want to practice certain distances.
Thanks for looking and let me know if I can help in any way.
