  • New Sim build 2019

Ok after lurking for a while and getting some advice on various components of my sim along the way I have started my build... We built a new house and I had 1/3 of the basement (~600sq ft) dropped 2 feet to creat 11 ft ceilings... This area will be my sim/gym area... The sim portion of it is 16.5ft X 22'10"... They just finished my house last week so I just started installing...

    Components list:
GCQuad with Club data and FSX 2018(Foresightsports.com)
    Ibuypower computer (i7, 16gb RAM, RTX 2080) (Bestbuy.com)
Sony FH 60 projector with short throw lense 16:10(eBay)
    Dricore subfloor (Lowe's.com)
Rubber floor rolls for gym flooring (rubberfloorinc.com)
Denon 2500 AV Receiver and 5 in ceiling Origin audio 8" speakers.

Everything else I got from Par2Pro:
    Par2pro 15'x9.4" screen
Angle iron install method for screen and surrounding trim
7' curtains on runners on the ceiling for side protection
    9x4 center hitting fiberbuilt mat
6' of par2pro ceiling protection (ruffled trim essentially)

I'll attach some photos of the empty room and where I stand right now... I'll keep adding them as I get more installed (still waiting on some of the par2pro stuff and rubber floor.

    Getting there...

thanks for sharing, that looks real nice. I think I will pull the trigger on this and get it going.
Again, glad we have this forum and people like who you share your experiences and setup.
      thank you very much!

I was able to get the vinyl trim around the bottom of the room installed and get everything out of the room as we are finally getting fully moved in... I took some panoramic pics to show the whole room... If it looks a little wavy in spots, my contractor wasn't drunk building the house, its just where the panoramic pic spliced it all together... This just gives the best look of the whole room... I also included some pics of the rest of my bar and basement as it turned out great... Basically just need to get the side curtains and ceiling protection up and I'm done with the golf side of things and then on to finishing out the gym buildout.

This is from the other side of the room... You can see the where the projector is mounted and the in ceiling speakers better...

              Very nice setup.

Question on your hitting mat and putting...what IS that thing? the thingie in front of the hitting mat?

I too have a GC Quad and mine came with putting - part of a sale package. I have not yet started construction as my basement - eerily like yours: we had builders dig out an extra 2 feet for a 20x20x11 foot area. That's my sim space - has yet to be framed. That should start in about 3-4 weeks. Wiring after, with the sheet rock and mudding being farmed out, so it'll go a little slow.
Of all the aspects of this sim, I seem to be having the hardest time with the hitting mat and (in game) putting. It's my understanding that the Quad looks at the ball for about 12-18 inches...then what? Does the Q not care what the ball does after that? Does it then compute and show the ball traveling to the hole up on the screen? What is the function of that piece in front of your Fiberbuilt?

My plan is for a hitting area that's one level over the whole sim room, starting with a Fiberbuilt inlay. I can easily cut out any sized hole for a hitting mat and also build up for a flush finish. I guess all I need is to know the thicknesses of the various pieces. I'm currently figuring out what I want to surround my Fiberbuilt. There seems to be many choices. I sent an email to Par2Pro a week+ ago and have yet to hear from them. Time for more reading.

The mat in front of the Fiberbuilt hitting Mat is just a "Putt-Out" cheap putting mat... Originally I bought that mat just to have as a place to putt in the house before my new house was built... I actually have it there now as a place for the ball to land after I hit it into the impact screen... Most of the time it lands on the mat and just rolls back up against the Fiberbuilt mat... My floor is rubber so it keeps the ball from rolling around everywhere or from picking up any rubber marks...

You're right in that the quad only reads the first 18 inches or so... And I have had no problem putting off the Fiberbuilt, but the hitting area is so large you could definitely putt off the stance mats...

I would definitely keep reaching out to Par2Pro... I will upload Preston's card when I get a chance...

Also, one thing to think of during the build is make sure you get Ethernet to your computer area, that way you can connect the computer to the internet and still use the WiFi to connect to the quad...

Thanks so much for the info, especially the Ethernet for the PC tip. Luckily my modem will be about 10 feet away from the PC, so that'll be easy.

And it sounds like I can do the Fiberbuilt mat like yours and then do....whatever after that. I live in Utah and work at LAX and across a busy street where I work is a fake grass warehouse. That has omen written all over it.

I'll also keep P2P in mind as I get closer to actually putting everything together. I'm not sure why I haven't heard from them, as I'm pretty sure I hit the send button.

                  Thanks again,

If you're needing mounting info, here's one way....

And the angle iron that he points to - and is kinda hard to make out - is similar to this...

I'm a total noob here and gathering info myself but it seems that a lot of members here mount their screens in a similar fashion. When my sim gets assembled, this will be my method. And, if you don't go with the grommets and a finished, store bought screen, sewing on nylon webbing will work for mounting with the bungees.

                      Here's what I might use:

                      Hope this helps.

                          Brian,
This is the video that Preston from Par2Pro sent me for installation: I followed this exactly
                          Prestons Installation video:

If you get all your stuff from Par2Pro they will send you everything you need, Custom Screen size, Custom Trim Kit around the edges of the screen, Angle Iron, Anchors, Velcro, Screws... Legitimately everything but the tools... They were great to work with... Cant say enough great things about Par2Pro

Did you add your own Velcro strip to the screen or order it that way?

                          Boverton,
The screen that I bought from Par2Pro has the soft part of the Velcro just inside the grommets. The trim kit is also made of the soft Velcro material... So to install the trim kit around the edges, you add sticky firm Velcro to your angle iron, and then add double sided firm Velcro that sticks between the screen and the trim kit... Easy as that... and the trim kit makes a huge difference and makes the screen look significantly better and obviously protects the edges. Hope this helps

That’s what I thought. My screen doesn’t have any Velcro so I’m trying to figure how to hide the angle iron and bungee cords. I like your plan. Thanks.

I didn’t go with a kit and instead built my own frame with fittings from Carl’s. For the trim/cover, I used foam exercise mats that were cut into strips and attached to the frame with zip ties. I’m very happy with how it came out.

Did you use angle iron or carls pipes for the screen? What did you do for the side curtain install? thanks
