  • Basement Sim/Theater Build Complete (2 years later)

I finally finished after 2 years of work!. Could not have done this without the help of the forum, you guys have all be generous with your comments and super helpful.

I started out wanting to convert a space in my basement to a dedicated sim and theater room (sim for me, theater for the family). Pre-build, ceiling was 8'9" which was tight to begin with. I had a mat and screen set up, which you can see in one picture) and I am comfortable with all clubs except driver. I'm 5'10". Have had friends over that are 6'2" and they seem to be fine with irons and fairway woods. Ideally I'd have more headroom but that's just not what I was working with, it's still fun! Width of the unfinished space was just over 13' and depth was over 28'.

The majority of the work I did on my own, except electrical, moving some plumbing and drywall. I built a raised platform in back for stadium seating effect. For the ceiling I did my best to keep as much of the height as possible so I didn't do any furring strips in the hitting area and used a thinner drywall but just insulated between the joists a bit more than the rest of the basement. You'll notice what looks like a semi-tray ceiling in the hitting area. After covering the area with carpet tiles, just in case it does get hit, I ended up losing less than an inch. With the flooring I lost about 1 3/4 inch. On the concrete I put some DMX AirGap, then 3/4" plywood, then the turf. The screen is 12" off the wall with a 1.5" mattress topper and netting behind it.

    Projector: BenQ Th671ST
Screen: Direct from Mill Order on this forum (1st gen)
Hitting Mat: 3 Fiberbuilt square inserts
    Turf: MegaGolf Platinum

I'm super happy with how it all turned out. I've got some playing with the projector and cage to do, as my buddy the other night with a more upright swing hit the cage. I'll post in the projector topic more details because I'll need to solicit some advice from the forums.

Take a look and let me know what you think or if you have any questions! Thanks again all!!!!

It ended up being 13'5" wide at the screen.
