Our home has a detached building. Part of it was a bed / bath area, the other part was a workshop / storage area. We decided to turn the workshop area into a golf sim room. Here is what we went with.
SkyTrak w/ metal case and Play & Improve package - bought it on their website during the labor day sale. $300 off reg price. I didn't know about this sale and almost purchased it the day before! $2,050
Carl's Place Enclosure with "Preferred" impact screen. 5 foot deep model. $650
Dell Inspiron Gaming PC Desktop AMD Ryzen 7 2700 Processor, 16GB DRAM, 1TB HDD, AMD Radeon RX 580 4GB GDDR5 Graphics Card. Amazon. It's the same PC I use in my home, so I was already comfortable with it's abilities. Caught a great deal at $580, using price alert software.
Optoma GT1080Darbee projector. Used price alert software and caught it for $548 on Amazon.
Motivo Golf Fairway One driving mat. 4x5, Amazon, $280. (right now it's $250)
We covered the complete floor with green indoor / outdoor carpet from Home Depot. We got lucky and found some that someone didn't take, but had cut. Got it for $100.
The walls were bare studs on the outside wall and particle board on the inside wall. We shot around several ideas. I wanted it to have a "clubhouse" look. We're still working on it, but we did get one very cool wall completed. It's very simple, but looks amazing. I got the base plywood for free. It was actually the sides of a shipping container. Then we just bought 1x6's and stained them black.
The room is 9'10" wide, 16' long, and the overhead support beams are 9'8" high. I can swing all but my driver with no issue. I have to choke down on my driver, just about two inches. I'm 5'10". My wife is 5'1" and can swing away with whatever she wants. We have plans on moving the beams higher in the future, once we figure out exactly how. It's not the most important part at the moment.
The walls that are currently white (where the tools previously hung) will all be painted black, TODAY! On the short wall under the window, my wife is painting it black and then installing plexi glass on top of the studs. She filling the entire area behind the plexi with golf balls. That's going to look awesome. The door that you see that goes to the other side will be a lounge area. We have a 50" television we're mounting in there, that will show what is currently on the golf sim screen. Everyone playing, waiting, or just watching will always be able to see the action from the other room.
So far, so good. We're having a blast with it.
