Easy Wi-Fi through your electric lines how to

I recently saw someone looking to extend their WiFi outside and thought this could be helpful for others.

Basically, you plug this extender in to your modem/router then into an electrical outlet nearby. Then, wherever you want wifi you plug the extender it into an outlet there. Your internet now runs through the electric lines of your entire house. It's pretty amazing and I have used it 250' ft away from my router with zero lag. Also, you can connect via Ethernet cable if you choose not to use the WiFi from the extender.

There may be a newer version of this, but this is the one I have and it works great.

Perfect DejaVu thanks... that may be just what I need to run wifi out to my shed, instead of real cable. Is it really without any speed loss?

Always better to work smarter not harder Brettster You can check out the reviews and look into the technology of it, but I stream hd movies with less hiccups at a distance with it than using the WiFi right next to my router.

I use similar gear throughout my house and outbuildings. 600 on the above is the theoretical max, but you'll probably get more like 200. That is still twice the max of old 100 base-t so you should not have issues unless you're trying to stream UHD films or whatever.

This tech can have occasional issues and lose connection. A simple on/off at the socket at both ends normally sorts it out.

That connection issue can cause problems in TGC as it never recovers, you need to quit out and resume the round which can sometimes put you back 3 holes. Used to drive me mad as I never played the holes as well as I did the first time.I switched to a WiFi mesh which for me is more reliable and never looses connection.
Not sure about other sim software it may handle the disconnects better, from what I read though the power line stuff is notorious for this and nothing will resolve it.

Years ago an Israel company installed a similar system throughout the town with the blessing of the city council. This lasted until the cable company cable and fiber optic cables were installed town wide. The power line stuff went to the trash can.

I had it for awhile. The problem is specifically power line transients as electric motors turn on and off. Power system distribution transients have a similar effect. The other problem was it was really slow compared to the cable/fiber competition. I think the speed issue has been somewhat resolved but the transient problem is inherent in such a system and really has no economical foolproof solution.

In summary if you have no transients on the power line such a system may be a solution to wiring your house, barn etc. I don't know what you are going to be transmitting but 100Mbs WiFi transmitters are readily available for cheap and certainly have enough bandwidth to accommodate any golf sim data moving requirements.

The 1200 series all had issues with disconnects, but I've gone back to an earlier 1000 series and haven't had a disconnect in years. My coachhouse even has its own consumer unit, with adapters on either side working happily together. Ours run over 240v though, not sure how they perform on US voltages.

Historically, the adapters also suffered from sleep mode bugs. If they weren't used for a while one or the other would go into power save mode, and then not recover. The 1200 series was notorious for that, the 1000 (and earlier) don't have the feature

I'm using the internet through power line as well to get my internet to a barn that's about 200 yards from my house but the power is connected to the house main power cabinet Works ok.

I still use them for non simulator stuff, music, streaming videos etc. in my sim room which is about 50 yards from the house. Some day's they are fine but then some they drop connection quite frequently, not a problem with music and videos they just buffer until they come back online. Did all the firmware updates and disabled sleep mode etc. nothing stops the drop out's hence the reason I went to mesh. The mesh is considerably slower than the powerline stuff but more reliable so it does the job I need it to.

Were they TPLinks? They are garbage. Firmware updates didn't solve the sleep problem - and then they just started denying it was even an issue, even tho literally 100s of people were complaining about it.
