  • Sim Room Feasibility Question (Part 2)

I have been trying to find a space in my home to set up a permanent sim. I have a GC Quad and projector which I currently use in my garage but I am looking to move it indoors. I have a space in my basement which is 15'7" x 19'8" but the drop ceiling is less than 8 feet. Speaking to a contractor, I can raise the ceiling but there is an unmovable HVAC vent on the right center of the ceiling. The left side of the room could be raised to a height of 9'5" and the right side would be 8'5". If I did this I could go with an 8'x12' impact screen and would hit from about 9-10' away but could make that closer. My family and I are all right handed golfers and I do not know many lefties so I am not overly concerned about that, but do you guys think it would be awkward with the two ceiling heights? The higher ceiling on the left would allow me to hit driver etc (I think).

The first image below is the floor plan/dimensions and my thoughts, the second image is the wall specs. Given the ceiling work is not cheap, I want to get the everyones opinion on whether this would be a feasible setup for a sim room. Thanks very much!!

I don’t think it would be that awkward, especially if the space is “broken” up with the sim setup under the higher ceiling. Another option (depending on the overall size of the room compared to the HVAC) is to “box” in the HVAC and make the ceiling consistently high elsewhere. This may give it a more natural feel.

nicu2001 check out this build. I think It is similar if I understood the description of your space. https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum...-uneekor-build

The space is broken up but 40% of the room will be the lower ceiling at 8'5" and the other 1/3 the higher at 9'5" so the screen will need to be 8'.

Wonder if Carl's (or other) would cut a screen to match the contour of your ceiling profile? Would actually be worth asking around.

This is perfect and nearly identical to what I am working with! Thanks so much.
