  • Best sound deadening material for a build in unfinished basement

I am putting a SIM in the unfinished part of my basement and the ceilings and part of the walls are not insulated to upstairs or the rest of the finished basement. I have a fear that the noise is going to be really loud through the home and I wanted to see what others have used to deaden the sound. Thanks in advance.

If you fill the stud cavity with unfaced insulation and it is left exposed it will absorb a lot of the sound. That could be your first test. Next would be to drywall over that. If you still were not happy then you could use green glue and add another layer of drywall. I would use 5/8" drywall. You could also use Quietrock EZ Snap as the drywall if you can find it or National Gypsum Sound Break,

Green Glue Noiseproofing Products are the most popular and cost-effective soundproofing materials on the market and application is fast, simple and effective.

5/8” QuietRock EZ-SNAP (ES) delivers high acoustic performance with improved workability to speed up installation time. Our patented EZ-SNAP technology…

You could also suspend the ceiling if you have high ceilings with a grid system
