  • New 11x14 SIM Room

    Hey Guys,

I am a new member to the site. I see lots of questions between various post and thought I would share pics of my new SIM room to help folks with decisions they are trying to make for their own. The photos should answer most questions people have.

This room is 11x14 and the ceiling doesn’t even come into play. The Carl’s DIY Golf Impact screen (Preferred) is 10.5x8 and I have an Optoma GT1080 Darbee projector and an All Turf Super Tee hitting mat so I know when I hit a shot fat. I did a lot of research on the mat for that’s the most important piece for me in my SIM outside of the SkyTrak.

Happy to answer any questions people have.

Looks great! How high are the ceilings? What type of turf did you go with? Any padding?

I have vaulted ceilings so they are probably 15 feet high. The turf under the hitting mat I got off Amazon. Worked out great!!!

I have a similar sized room and can't hit from the middle due to width. Does the projector you purchased allow you to offset the image enough to get the center in front of where you are hitting from? Also, does having the projector in front of you on the floor bother you much as opposed to on the ceiling? Why did you not mount it on the ceiling?

I can hit with irons for sure in the middle, but I won’t test from the middle with the driver. I have had no problem with aim off set when on the driving range. Haven’t played WGT enough to know yet. I mounted on the floor because of my vaulted ceilings but I haven’t had any issues with it being on the floor. Doesn’t event come to mind.

Looks good. I need one of those projector cases as mine is on the floor too. Where did you run the cords for the projector? I don't even see them haah.

I cut a small hole in the turf and ran the cords under it.

Nice job, looks great!! I'm building a very similar setup (SkyTrak, Carl's DIY 8x12 standard impact screen, Optoma GT1080 Darbee, All Turf Super Tee mat) and completely agree on the quality of the mat - I really like the feedback it provides on fat shots. I have some of the same questions as others:
    1. What did you use for turf around/underneath the Super Tee mat? Any padding?
    2. Any issues with the projector floor mounted right in front of the hitting mat?
    3. How DID you run the wires from the projector?? I'm assuming you cut holes through and then ran under the turf? It looks really clean!
    Enjoy it!

I got the turf off Amazon. I wanted it bound all around and I wanted it kind of think like grass so I had to search high and low for the right type. The projector doesn’t come to mind at all and you got it right. I cut a hole to run the wires under. Here’s link to turf:

I ordered a 12'x13' iCustomRug turf from Amazon and it arrived last week. I installed in my simulator room last night, but noticed the grass fiber seems really flattened and wrinkled/creased in places from how it was packaged & shipped. Did the condition/feel of your rug improve with time, once it was laying flat? Any tips on how to speed the process up?

If you have to hit offset from the middle, the projector in the ground is a good option since it usually has to be mounted in the middle of the screen. Unless you have horizontal shift. If you put it on the ceiling and hit offset, you may bring it into your swing arc and possibly hit it.
