  • New Garage Build - Finally Completed! Pics From Beginning To End

    Hello Everyone,

My name is Corey and I am a PGA Club Professional new to the forum. I just completed my very first build in order to have a place to teach in the winter, for friends/family to enjoy and to work on my game in the offseason (or a peaceful place away from my club in the summer).

In my first post on the forum I was asking for feedback on how to make my setup portable so my wife could still park in the garage:

Hello All, My name is Corey, I am a PGA club professional in the beginning stages of building a simulator in my garage. I will be using this predominantly for teaching in the winter, but also for my own game and friends/family enjoyment. I am looking for some feedback and hopefully advice from personal experience on how to

Originally I was debating on building the enclosure on casters and sliding it back and forth to allow room for my wife’s vehicle or installing a wench and building a folding platform to hit off of. Instead (with the help of a creative buddy of mine), we began to throw the idea around of not doing anything drastic, just moving the hitting mat every time. Problem was, How do you do that and have the ability to have a solid run of turf to be able to putt? And I knew I wanted it dead center of the garage to avoid the garage door tracks and lift so lefties and righties could play. Well, we decided on interlocking mats with turf attached to it. Ended up being a very easy and stress-free solution as opposed to building something heavy that we could move.

Here is what I have with measurements...

Garage is 22’ wide x 24’ long (needed to maintain storage area, workbench, zero turn storage, tons of junk and ability for wife to park in the garage)

    - SkyTrak ($1500)
    - Optoma 1080 GT Darbee Short Throw Projector (4:3 ratio) ($650)
    - Acer Aspire 7 Gaming Laptop ($850)
    - Carl’s enclosure (10.5’ W x 8’ H x 5’ D) with preferred screen (haven’t put anything else behind screen yet (tarp, blanket or anything) ($800)
    - Ten 10’ (1”) EMT pipe from Lowe’s ($100)
    - Hitting Strip is 10” W x 30” L Real Feel Country Club Elite ($60)
    - 24” interlocking gym mats from Sam’s Club ($150)
    - 8x6 rolls of basic outdoor turf (Lowe’s) ($20 each)

All in all, about $4k total which I wanted to stay under $5k.

We super glued the mats together (used two layers of .53” mats) and then used carpet adhesive to glue the turf to the mats. This is how we built the landing pad, putting strip and hitting mat. Trimmed everything out and then glued the mat trim connectors to the front of the hitting mat and front of the landing pad to connect the putting strip. We cut out for the insert and slid it into the hitting mat (not quite flush, but close). I’ll just use a 2’ x 8’ strip of extra turf and run it from the front of the hitting strip to the landing pad when playing to make putting smoother.

I have attached photos of the progress from beginning to end.

It’s not going to win any awards, but it serves its purpose and is solid for a multi-purpose area like my garage.

I hope this helps someone out in constructing their sim. I know I was lost just a week ago!

PS- If anyone can give me a recommendation on E6 vs TGC2019 I would appreciate it! I was set on TGC2019 until I saw some negative reviews on here about a glitch involving balls bouncing straight up in the air.

    Pics attached below...

Very nice. Love your set up.
can you show me where you installed your projector?
and why did you needed 10 more EMT pipes when you have the Carl’s enclosure?
    thanks

TGC2019 is awesome. I’ve had it for a little while now and still wouldn’t buy any other software. The high bounce is only on low skulled shots or occasionally on punch outs, after playing for a little over a month I could probably count on one hand the amount of times I have even noticed it.

I think CSPGAPro is talking about ball going straight in the air off contact. This is not a flaw in the game. It’s the same as trying to clear a bunker lips with too low a loft of club. Ball goes straight up. The one bender is talking about is on super low stingers. It bounces strangely high. Not a huge deal to me as its rare and not a distance killer at all. It’s just strange. The video game version does it too but it’s super hard to hit a stinger in the game version.

For the one you’re asking about, if your Launch Angle is not greater than the slope in front of you the ball will hit the slope and go in the air. In real life, your shoulders match the slope and you swing on the same plane as the slope. In the sim you are level like a level level and if you if hit a 10 degree launch angle shot on a 12 degree slope the ball will hit the slope and go straight in the air. People may think it’s a flaw in the game but it’s a flaw in the shot no more than if I hit a low 3 wood that doesn’t clear the slope in front of you in real life. It’s the same thing. People hit the ball too low to cover the slope and blame the game because they are perfect. Lol

Yeah listen to bender/mthunt. They have been playing much longer than me. That being said, I played TGC2019 on PC with a controller (Steam) for months before getting a simulator so was already a fan of the game.

      BSK0827,

The Carl’s Enclosure comes with the joints and corner brackets, the bunnies, screen and vinyl enclosure. You have to buy the 1” EMT and cut it to the specs they give you and put it all together.

My projector is mounted just in front of garage door opener (pic attached).

I just used scrap 2x6 lumber I had to build a little support. Drops down 15” plus the projector mount puts it down to just under 2’ from ceiling (10 foot ceilings). I had to drop it down because the front end of the 5’ depth on the enclosure was cutting the image off.

      Hope this helps.

      Thanks

      Thank you for the reply.
I’m looking at the same enclosure, and wasn’t sure why it was needed, but now I know.

Nice set up! and TGC 2019 Is amazing! You won't regret it. There is a big first bounce but its not the end of the world. Doesn't effect game play as far as I'm concerned
