I just got and installed a golf simulator for my dad for xmas. Before I ordered it, we both swung a driver in his basement, and it was close, but it looked like we'd have some inches to spare. After getting up on the mat and swinging hard, my dad (who is a couple inches taller than I) left a few marks on the ceiling with his driver. That doesn't concern me too much, but the marks are pretty close to a recessed can light which I'm worried we may bust. I can remove the can, but has anyone put anything on their ceiling to mitigate this issue? I was thinking either something smooth to let the club glide without getting marked up, or maybe something soft like foam to just absorb the impact and and slow down the club. I searched on the forum and I found some great suggestions for foam when it comes to the ball, but not for a club. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Menards stocks various sizes and sheets of Acrylic... its clear, shatter proof, and basically what they make lie boards out of for clubs fitting -
That could work. It's probably harder than the drywall on my ceiling though. So it would skid better, but make impact harder. Have you tried this?Comment

I have not tried it for that application... i have been working on coming up with a hitting mat that has a poly/arcrylic base because of its durability and flexibility. polycarbonate is incredibly strong, and a 1/8 sheet is pretty flexible. I dont think you'll notice any increase in harshness with the glancing blows your talking about. In fact, why im trying to use polycarbonate under the hitting turf is because its so "slick" that i can feel the turf moving with the club as i hit and not grabbing.Comment
