  • Reducing Carl's Standard Screen Bleed Through?

I'm noticing a high amount of light from the projected image bleeding through my Carl's standard impact screen. Even at night with zero ambient light, the image is not nearly as bright or high contrast as I'd like. During the daytime, the setup is almost unusable. Any recommendations on what to hang behind the screen to reduce the bleed through? I've heard some people recommend cheap fabric or a king sized bed sheet - is the color important (e.g. use white vs. a darker grey)?

In case it matters, my screen is the Carl's standard 8x12 with 5 ft enclosure and I'm using an Optoma GT1080Darbee projector. In the attached photo, you can see the window behind the screen is a problem and I plan to get a custom blackout shade to remedy that.

I hung blackout curtains behind mine.. had black but it showed a feint outline so I switched to white.

I also have blackout curtains (got them from Ikea). Although I think even a normal sheet would stop some of that bleed through. If it's a permanent setup, go for the blackouts.

Thanks for the responses! My wife reminded me we have a bunch of blackout curtains leftover from our last house and I'm pretty sure they are white on the 'inside', so I think I might be able to hang those from the EMT structure using some extra bungies.

I bet you could pick up an inexpensive white tarp from Lowes, Amazon, etc. and hang it behind, the tarps are opaque. 12 x 8 should only cost you $10-20 since it doesn't need to be heavyweight.
