Garage Build: Taking the plunge!

The Mevo+ is my catalyst to starting my project.

Baby steps.... few questions for the group please.

1) My garage has 11 foot ceilings but the tracks for the garage door are at a little over 8 feet. Can I simply raise the tracks and motar in the middle to around 10 feet for $800 and call it a day? Or do I need to put a jack shaft in and pay 2-3k? I’d try and avoid that unless someone says otherwise here. Also is $800 a reasonable quote for raising tracks + motar? They said they need to custom order new tracks if they want to raise. I’m assuming ~9 foot 8 inches is plenty of space after.

2) I’m looking to place the Stealth Elite Pro with electronic side netting from Par2Pro in front of the cabinets/workstation in the photo attached. If I put it there I can have about a 12 width screen. Would that be enough to play in the middle of the screen with another car in the other bay or would I be playing offset?

3) Should I be playing towards the cabinet or is there a reason I should be playing hitting towards the garage door? The width of the garage door is 9 feet width

4) I was thinking of buying electronic side netting that come down, but i think if I want to play in the middle of the screen the would need to take my wife’s car out and then hit a little from the other garage bay (in a lefty). So if I have a 10 foot side netting that comes down I wouldn’t be able to hit as it would be in my backswing. Should I get a curtain that I could adjust so it doesn’t go as far as where I am hitting?

5) Anything else I should consider? My depth is about 22 feet, the cabinet is 2 feet, 1 foot for protection on ball impact, 10 feet from screen to tee, and about 8-9 feet for the Mevo+ behind the tee.

$800 is right around what my overhead door company charged me to convert me to a high-lift garage door setup... I then purchased the jack shaft opener and installed it myself... I think grand total I was in it for $1,200 for a Jackshaft high lift. Ironically, that was not even for my golf bay.

In my golf bay... I Jerry-rigged mine... What I did was keep the old tracks at their 8'ft height and moved my motor up to the 11.5' height and made a huge track bar extension for the opener... It looks really wierd and I had to add a section to my worm-drive portion of my motor, but it works... I will likely go to another jackshaft on that side when this one eventually gives out. I still have plenty of side to side room for full length driver swings. No one has come even close to hitting the tracks in that configuration, wheras, when my motor was at that height I had a few people (myself included) hit the garage door motor.

I would suggest removing your wife’s car for your hitting sessions. This would require a mat that you can move potentially. Don’t hit into your garage door if it is metal as it will likely create a lot of reflections that will have an impact on your radar such that you would get lots of no reads. With radar longer is better and so I would encourage you to use as much ball flight room as you can possibly attain. In terms of curtains why not just have some heavy material on a track?

My plan if i have friends that are lefty / righty, I would take both cars out and then play in the middle with the netting not fully implemented.

If I am playing alone i don't mind to play offset and then I can have my wife's car still in the other bay. My goal is usually when I come home from work I would not park my car inside (winter time so the snow doesn't make the floor all wet and dirty) and then I could right away lower the screens and play. At the end put all my stuff away and then put my car in for the evening

the long thin blue "Screen" box is actually eitehr the curtain or a stealth side screen from par2pro.

Tom919 Do you plan to place your tee 8' from the rake/shovel wall and 9' from the garage door? That would put you near the black car's tire path. It would also leave you approximately 5' to the white car from the tee. The side curtain would be 1' from the car and then you would have your 12' between the side screen and wall. If I am understanding your plan, you may need to account for the distance from the brackets to the roller.

I think you will want to make sure the side screen is mounted a little to the left, about 1', of the right edge of the impact screen. See attached pic showing my screen's left edge, opposite side of yours. This creates an overlap that will stop, or slow down, shanked shots. I recently had one of those moments and hit several chip shots off the heel of my wedge. Amazingly, they all went directly to the corner and bounced through. But, they were slowed to a dribble and the side screen did it's job.

Regarding your turf choice, I really like how well this artificial grass stops the ball from bouncing and rolling. I would place it up front, by your screen. I bought three 5'x10' pieces and placed them in the area between our vehicle's tire lines. The tires straddle the grass. It has a thin under layer that can be easily cut to size, and its a shaggy 1.75". Made for outside use and you can vacuum or hose it off. Remember to wash your balls.

- I am a lefty so i was planning on placing the tee about 3-4 feet from the sidewall with the shovel (i am facing the sidewall with the shovel). I am assuming that this will be enough space where i don't come into contact with the white SUV and the curtain / side panel. When I have a righty friend coming to play I would play in the middle of the screen, but then take out the white SUV for more space. Does this make sense?

- Thanks for the advice on the overlapping.... didn't think of that. I think it will work as the side panel would be a little inside of one of the tracks. But I think the tracks end at where the side panel would begin so they shouldn't overlap.

- For the turf. how many feet inside the screen does it have to be? About 2 feet? I could have it placed in the front and then in the middle for the tire lines like you have it.

Tom919 About the turf... I am currently asking fiberbuilt for a 3'x10' putting mat/surface. The shag turf works near the screen and to the side, but I really want a flat surface to putt on and watch my ball speed. I believe you may need to have a putting surface or flat area extending from the hitting position for the mevo+ . How far does the ball travel before it is done capturing data on putts?

So it doesn’t seem to be working well with where I would like to place my setup so I am exploring an additional option.

Which makes more sense?

Option 1: in the bay of the black car and hitting towards the cabinet. I unfortunately cannot do a jackshaft on this option because there is not enough space next to the garage door.

Oprion 2: in the bay of the white car but hitting towards the garage door. I would have 12 feet of width and 18 feet of depth which includes the one foot after the door for the impact.

Any comments as to why option 2 would be a bad option would be appreciated. Attached are photos.

Sorry I could not tell what sim solution you are going with but thought it was Mevo+. If you choose radar, then your (what looks to be) metallic door could be an issue.

Sorry it is a Mevo+ sim solution I am aiming to get.

so if it’s an aluminum door then it’s a nogo with the Mevo+.

honestly I have no clue if my door is aluminum or not.

I suspect mine is aluminum, but I would say any metal door would cause problems. You can always check if the issue is resolved and a non issue for FS. The TM rep I spoke to years ago der he could likely fix it for me, but I just decided to stop waiting and ended up moving my sim to a place that worked out better in any event
