  • 3rd Garage Bay Layout advice

    Hey all,

Well.. as kids move on to college I have an opportunity to take full control of the 3rd bay in our 3 car garage for a full time hitting bay. I have been using the 2 car side of the garage for several years with a screen, cheap projector, and mat platform I would move out of the way when i need to get cars parked, but really looking forward to a permanent setup that I don’t have to set up and tear down all the time.

The 3rd stall space is 20ft long by 12ft wide. There is no wall separating it at all from the 2 car side of the garage... so I really have 2 options on orientation.. I plan to fully cover the entire 20’x12’ section of the garage with putting turf, and drop my Fiberbuilt 3 foot hitting strip in the hitting area. Screen will be 10 ft wide and go up to the ceiling which is 9ft 8in high.. plan to project in 4:3 aspect ratio. Hitting area about 9ft from the screen. I will be removing the garage opener and overhead door tracks so will have no ceiling obstructions.

I attached a couple pics of my 2 choices of which direction to place my screen. Would love opinions on which orientation to go with.. and why.. You can see in each there is the single car section, and the double car section. I drew a dotted line between the 2 sections, there is no wall there, but I don’t want to extend the putting turf past that line..

Leaning toward the option where I hit with the screen on the shot wall toward the back of the garage. I planned on putting the hitting strip 7ft from the long wall to allow room for lefties, and would then be 5ft from the deviding line for the right handed golfers... since no walls, should allow plenty of freedom to swing even though the stance area is shorter. I have the 10ft screen centered in that layout, but could push it all the way to the dividing line of the 2 garage sections as well to center the screen with the hitting strip better.

    Any comments, suggestions, opinions welcome!

I'd go with option 1 where you are hitting into the long wall. That is basically how mine is set up, that way when we have 6-8 guys playing E6 there is room for everyone to sit and watch the action. Easy to move chairs into the hitting bay when not using and pull car back into the garage. Good Luck

      Thanks,

I added a little detail to my plans... I found a way to keep both cars in the garage while playing by hitting toward the short wall, expanding my hitting strip to 2 feet wide and putting the Mevo+ on a sliding camera track.. this will give another foot of space to each hitter by moving the Mevo+ on the track.. mind you, lefties will only use the simulator less than 5% of the time.. and I don't have large groups over to play.. just me and maybe 1 or two others... and most of the use will be in winter, I play outside on the course 5-6 times a week over the summer..

I most certainly give up some unrestricted free space though hitting to the short wall... just have to decide what's more important, the free space with the inconvenience of moving a car and setting up the Mevo+.... or giving up some of the free space, but not have to worry about moving cars/setting up anything.

Once the Mevo+ gets delivered, I'll be able to use it with my makeshift setup in the 2 car side of the garage, and get a better idea if longer distances to screen matter as well.. and if 9-10' to screen works better than 8' it'll be a no brainer that I need to hit toward the short wall since I have more runway that direction. If it is just as reliable at 8' as it is from 10'.. well, then I just need to pick what's more important... extra space, or parking cars... such horrible decisions to make
