  • Need advice and assistance with my basement SIM build

I’m in the process of finishing my basement and decided to do a sim build. My room dimensions are 14.5 wide by 16.5 long and the ceiling height is 8’- 8”. I was able to replace one floor joist with a steel beam that will give me a slot of 32 inches by 10 feet by 9’3” in height. This is positioned to allow a backswing with a driver. Unfortunately due to a main beam this slot is centered approximately 9 feet from the wall of 8 feet from the screen. I have received all different opinions regarding projectors which has caused me to install 3 different HDMI ports at 6’6” from wall in ceiling, 13’ in ceiling and one for a floor mount. I have had people try to sell me projectors at 13 feet and have others tell me it would not work because I would cast a shadow. I had others tell me a floor mo7nt would be the only one to work but since I have to swing 7 feet from the screen the floor mount would be on my mat and I think would be a distraction. I so spoke to someone who recommended a optoma eh460short throw at 5’6” but I’m concerned that someone may hit it with a wild swing. I’m not really a techie so it is all confusing. Since I have not sheet rocked yet I can make adjustments. I have not seen anyone on this forum use the optoma eh460st? Anyone familiar? Also has anyone used Spectrum Golf for the impact screen. There screens and enclosure are 2 x the price of Carl’s? If I go with a short throw it will be almost directly over my head about a foot in front of me. Anyone ever use a protective type basket? I can get the projector to be almost flush with the ceiling if need be? Any advice is appreciated! Thanks

For the projector consider the optoma wu515st. It has large vertical and horizontal lens shift which offers massive flexibility in terms of location once you have the distance to the screen figured out. For example mine is over 3 feet from the right of the center of the screen.

Can you tell me what aspect ratio you used and what are the dimensions of your room? Thanks for the Recommendation

16:10 in terms of aspect ratio. The screen is 144 by 94. I have to hit to the right of the center of the screen due to the room shape. I altered the GC Quad using the room setup tool and it works fine. I am about 9 feet from screen ceiling is 9 feet 1 Inch with drywall and it’s fine no near misses yet.

the projector is directly above the hitting area so a little in front of me when I hit, you can see the image attached which will give you a better idea Click image for larger version
