    Sim Build in Austria

    Dear all,

as many others, I have been visiting this forum for information without actively engaging much. Since my build is pretty close to completion, I'd like to share my set up. Maybe others find some useful insights.

    Preamble:
My set up is located in my living room. Decades ago the room was an indoor swimming pool, hence the room is quite big and measures roughly 37'x18' (12.5 x 6 meters). The pool is covered by a wooden structure roughly 31'x13' (10x4 meters). In this area the floor is raised by roughly 6" (15cm). I extended the heightened floor in the area of the enclosure with formwork panels (see picture). As the room doubles up as the room to entertain lager gatherings, I wanted a solution that is highly flexible.so a permanent installation was out of the picture. Due to other set up restrictions in the room I can only use the shorter side for the simulator.

    Building the enclosure:

I started off with building a wooden frame that I placed in between to horizontal beams (see pictures) that support the roof. Width is 10' (3 meters). Height is 9' (2.7 meters). I hung a mermory foam mattress from the horizontal beam. It is fixed with velcro on the mattress cover in order to be able to easily adjust the height later on as necessary (I am not quite happy with that currently as the mattress cover is too flexible and hence the foam bends a bit - I need to figure something out to improve on that).

The screen is an archery net where I again attached (really learning to operate the sewing machine these days) velcro in order to have a clean finish at the top and at the sides. I am actually very happy with the picture quality. I used to have a proper "movie" screen for the projector and the net clearly is not as good, but very acceptable - especially when you have moving pictures.

For the roof of the enclosure a ordered a custom made tarp with grommets and velcro at the right positions. I then attached acoustic foam to the roof (see pictures). Given the wooden beams that support the roof of the room it was easy to attach hooks to mount the tarp. I am extremely happy about this solution as it was cheap and looks very tidy.

The sides of the enclosure are made of black molleton with velcro at the edges that attaches to the screen and the tarp. I can easily take them away if I need the space otherwise. At the edges of the sides that attach to the screen I used some sort of seat belt stap to have clean edges.

Since the hitting area also needs to be flexible I am building a "mat" made of formwork panels with a cut out section for a replaceable Fiberbuilt mat. I plan to use composite foam in order to level the standing area. I will finish it with some putting turf.

Things that still need to be done:
    1. Arrival of mevo+ (wall to screen I have 19'4" - so I should get around 12' of ball flight)
    2. Finishing of hitting area
    3. Finishing of floor in the enclosure (some soft material to dampen the balls when they hit the ground)
    4. Building of a movable putting track that attaches to the hitting area (I am thinking about using the same method as the hitting area)
    5. Black cloth between screen and foam mattress

    Feel free to comment/ask questions!

    Cheers

schurlette Looks great. The ceiling protection looks like a great idea. how did you attach those acoustic panels to the tarp. Glue/sew? Thanks for sharing. Also what size are the panels and where did u purchase?

I bought self adhesive panels online from a shop in Germany (the "glue" on the panels reminded me of duct tape). Size is 1 x 0.5 meters. 5cm thick.I figured that the surface of the tarp should work really well with self adhesive panels - and it does: it would tear the foam panels apart if tried to remove them.

Thanks. I’ll see if I can find self adhesive panels in US
