  • Looking for advice - New Build

I have finally begun the build and have ordered a gc2 as my first step (Got a pretty good price from a friend). I am working with a contractor now to get the ceiling in the room lifted to be roughly 10 feet tall as it in a room above the garage that had lower ceilings than I wanted. (8.5 feet, but going to lift the ceiling joists). The room is about 20 feet wide x 26 feet long. I don't want to use the entire room for the simulator and am going to plan to have a bar on the backside.

I am looking for advice on suggested mats, screens, enclosures (ie order from Carls or DIY). I am going to wait to buy the projector that I need till I get all that finalized. I am looking to have my hitting mat sitting in a larger turf area and don't know where to begin for that either. What goes under it ( carpet pad?), and how do I ensure that it will be the same height as my hitting mat?

Any advice, suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

    How exciting!!

I just put together a simple setup for now.

Real Feel Mat (5'x5'), Net Return Home Series and GC Quad.

The Net Return is the ultimate golf and multisport practice net, trusted by pros like Bryson DeChambeau, delivering unmatched innovation and quality for over 15 years, complete with an industry-leading 3-year warranty.

Rain of Shine Golf was great with the shipping!

I think everything depends on your budget and how you want the setup.

For now, I'm just hitting into the Net Return and showing my numbers on an iPad.
For the time being, this is great. Simple, but gets the job done.
Once you decide on a simulator enclosure, you can take the next step.

I really like the Real Feel Mat and how the club goes through without any pinch.

My next step is adding a screen and projector to the top of NetReturn (another feature I like of the product, ease of adding parts).

Hope your set up goes well!!

I don’t believe you can add a projector mount to the home series. Maybe a screen, but projector mount I believe is only for their simulator series nets

Budget is around 3-4k total remaining for the enclosure, hitting mat and tgc.

I might build my own enclosure based on the all sports ones since they can sit against the wall.

any suggestions on good places to source the netting and side panel material or should I just order the kit to avoid the headache

Curious on how they will lift the ceiling joists and if you are comfortable sharing the estimate that you received?

Sounds like a great build and wish you luck!

I have always enjoyed my Truestrike matt.

They room is located above the garage. There are two "knee" walls on each side that are currently about 5 feet high, they were then slanted up on an angle till a flat ceiling part that went ~ 12 feet across the span. The ceiling joists to the roof rafter left about ~ 5 feet to the peak. They are lifting the joists by cutting them out, making them shorter then shifting them up roughly 2 feet (per structural engineer) to get my ceiling to a finished height of 9ft 10inches from the current floor.

Mind you I did the demo work myself, and we are trying to re-use as much of the previous insulation as possible without having to buy new ones to save some money. Total cost for the joist lift and drywall / mudding is roughly $2500. I am going to be running the wiring for the lights, cat6 and the AV equipment before they put up any of the new walls.

I plan on putting a HDMI box with a power outlet on the ceiling so I Can mount the projector there. Then the current area where there is a closet it where the wires will go to for the computer to hook up to said projector having the wires hidden behind the new drywall.

The one thing that I am still trying to figure out what to do is for flooring. I don't want to turf the entire room, but I think just the 10ft or so from my hitting area to screen.

Thank you for the detail. Sounds like a great plan. Likely would not work for me, but if that were the cost I would do it in a second.

All the best with the build. I suspect you could do what ever you want with the flooring if you don’t want to turf the entire space and would say look at some build pictures as not everyone has put turf in their whole area. Find one you like and maybe the person can tell you what they did.

You going to hear 10 different answers on what mat to get. Mat is going to come down to personal preference. Best bet is to try as many as you can. I am assuming you are just going to get a hitting strip and build the carpet around the hitting area. With that said most hitting strips are around 1 7/8 inch tall so you would have to build the stance area up that high.

I was looking at some of the DIY Gel mats that people have made and am thinking I might go that route. Any suggestions for building up the flooring base? The interlocking rubber tiles seem to be what most people are using. Do I just then roll out the artificial turf and staple it to that or do I cover that all in some thin OSB board prior? Not sure where to go with that.
