Has anyone done a outdoor build with hitting screen and projection?

Currently I do not have the space available for an indoor set up but I do live in Southern California where the weather is mild and we get no rain through most of the year, with summertime rain non-existent.

Has anyone done a outdoor build using an impact screen and projector?

I know this type of set up limits me to mostly evening use, which I'm OK with. I already own a GCQuad, large hitting mat and gaming computer so my thoughts are to purchase something like the Net Return Pro Series and a projector and stand and be able to use it ourdoors, bringing in the projector computer and GCQuad when not in use. We spend most of the summer outdoors anyway.

Is this doable?

Doug, it is definitely doable. There are retractable impact screens, they roll up like old time movie screens. You can put an awning off the house maybe to keep things a little more covered too. I just started playing sim golf and I do it in my backyard(I am on Long Island in NY) I set everything up each time, mat, net, mevo+, and t.v.. Your setup is only as limited as your imagination.

What about building a bit of an enclosure outside as part of the awning idea. You could have black curtains that come out as well to further cut down on the light. Perhaps you could sacrifice picture quality a bit and go with a very bright (high lumen) business projector. I remember a video on youtube where the person operated a sim as part of his business and the room was very bright for the rest of his store and the projected image was very good.

I could build an awning with threaded rigid pipe and black curtains. hmmmm.

Are high lumen projectors lower resolution?

No you can still get good resolution high lumen projectors but the price increases pretty good. Just don’t know how much picture quality matter given the outside set up. I’m thinking for daytime play 6000 plus lumens at best. I would try to find that old video I mentioned on YouTube as that would give you a pretty good indication of what you might need.

Would have to dig around to find one big enough but I bet if you look hard enough you could find something that is suitable.

I have very different meteological conditons to you, as I live in the UK, so rain most weeks, and definitely not as much bright sunlight However I'm about to try this as I have a net and mat with a flightscope X2 that I setup in the garden, which only takes 5-10 minutes to get going as the frame for the net is pinned in place.

Given the lockdown and zero golf on an actual golf course, I've just bought a projector and will be playing around with a number of products to act as impact/projector screens next week. I have no intention of assembling any kind of enclosure, but hope it will be usable from dusk. I will let you know how effective it is, if at all...

Have a look on YouTube. The Average Golfer posted a Mevo+ video on YouTube commenting on his new Mevo+ and he had built a backyard setup. I would suggest building in vastly more protection for missed shots as what he has built seems dangerous, but it is definitely possible with a good protective cage.

My my example for why I think it is dangerous, friends come over, they have beer one of them shanks a shot and takes out a window. Alternative someone misses the screen and netting altogether with a driver and takes out a neighbour.

I am also not not sure if he paid for his Mevo+ as he seemed to struggle a bit during the video with the price.

So I tried this out for the first time on Monday evening. I have a fairly bright projector, and the image in the screen was easily able to project 8ft and be usable by about 8:15pm. Sunset here was just after 8pm. Obviously as the ambient light reduced, the image got brighter. However my garden is fairly secluded, with trees at the back, and no direct sunlight after the sun goes behind a nearby house. If there was more ambient light, I think it would make a significant difference. So, for the OP, I think the time it will be usable, could vary depending on the actual situation where you are looking to have it setup. But in principle, yes it works just fine.
For the projector, note that you will need to make sure you get one that has both horiziontal and vertical keystone. This is because you will likely have the unit to the side, and it will need both keystone adjustments to cope with this.

It's a bomaker parrot 1. Perfectly good in a darkened environment, but don't believe that you can use it (or any other affordable projector) outside in normal daylight, that simply won't happen.
