  • New build in MA - Looking for help

    Hi All,

New to the forum so thanks in advance for any help! We're finalizing plans to construct a new home and hope to break ground in the next month or two. We'll be building a simulator area in the downstairs family room. Attached is a rudimentary sketch of the room.

The area is 12' 8'' wide and 16' 10'' long. I'm dropping the floor so that the height in the area will be 10'.
Looking at the screen, the front, right and rear walls will be full walls. The left wall opens up to the family room. The front 4' of the wall will be full. The first 1' to capture the hitting screen and the next 3' to help block out any light around the screen. The rear 4' of the wall will be open and have a couple of stairs stepping down to the simulator are. The remainder will be a half wall. I plan to have the tee centered 10' from the front wall/9' from the screen leaving 6' 10'' behind the screen to allow for back swing.
Lots of decisions down the road on screens, matts, curtains, padding, etc. For now, I'm focused on the room set up and main components - launch monitor, projector, screen, lights, electrical, etc.

I was originally looking at the GC Quad. I'm also now considering GC Hawk, QED or EYE OX. Any suggestions on what would fit best in this space? Do I have room for all of them? Are any better than others for tee area flexibility to either leave plenty of room for a driver or for the occasional lefty (comfortably using driver is a lot more important than having a set up for a lefty)? Appears the Uneekor models provide more bang for the buck including club head data but what are the drawbacks compared to the Foresight models? Are there models I'm missing you'd suggest I consider?

Based on the room set up, appears a 4:3 projector would work best providing for a 12' x 9' screen. Has anyone set up a similar size hitting screen? Anything I should be aware of? Any projector suggestions? Screen set up suggestions? I plan to have an electrical outlet in the ceiling for the projector and possibly the monitor if I go with something other than GC Quad. I guess I'll also need an outlet where I set up the computer.

Should I also now be planning for cameras? EYE OX PR video makes the high-speed cameras seem worthwhile to view your mechanics. What else would I need to set up cameras? Outlets and light? Any suggestions on recessed lighting in the ceiling? Just one above the ball or a couple along the tee area.

Thanks again for any help. So much to consider so would be great to leverage all your experiences and avoid common mistakes.

    John

I have a similar room dimension and plan to go with either QED or EYE XO. Will make the decision once the update for QED comes out that will enhance the calculated club data compared to the measured club data of the EYE XO. They both seem to be incredible values compared to other products out there.

Hawk would be the best for a narrow room like that if you need left and right handed play but it’s spendy.
