  • What Did You Use Behind Your Impact Screen?

What are you using behind your screen and why? I just completed my 14x9 wooden frame and have my raw impact screen on its way but what I didn't account for is something behind the screen. I've spent hours reading posts but still have these questions:

It seems like many people did one of the following (or both): added a dark cloth/material behind the screen to help the colors on the screen pop? or added a cloth, moving blanket, or netting to help the screen take the impact better.
    1. What did you use and why? Where did you get it from? Price? Link/URL?
    2. Do you have it covering the entire screen or just the center impact area?
    3. How did you connect it to your frame (did you use the same tarp clips or bungees or did you affix it separately on it's own)? Is it touching the impact screen or a couple inches behind it?
    Pictures? Thanks!

I I back my screen up with archery netting and it covers the same area as my screen. Connected with bungees just like my screen. Bought it from WestCoast netting I believe.

I don't have anything behind my screen besides a blackout curtain over the small window. I don't really see much reason to have anything there with my screen, it's heavy enough by itself that it doesnt significantly deflect towards the wall behind it more than a couple inches.

What CHansen157 said -I got a screen from the mill and it does the trick all alone

1-Used an old supertex impact screen that I had. That screen is not very durable and wore on me in less than a year, but it's good to back up my direct from mill screen. I also have a net that I used to use behind that.
2-Its slightly smaller width wise since I went from a 4:3 setup to 16:9.
3-Connected to frame by tarp clips and bungee cords. It is touching the impact screen.

If it's not close to a wall just hanging it loose from the ceiling eats up the impact with very little rebound. If you have it close to a wall then I'd guess padding would be key.

I screwed a length of perforated angle iron to the ceiling and attached the screen to it with tarp clips, easy as pie. And easy to adjust to get sags and wrinkles out.

I went with 2 moving blankets with black color facing the screen. Deadens the impact and sound.

Ive just ordered some moving blankets for behind my screen. did you attach to the screen or to the wall? My screen is about 2 foot from the wall. Want to deaden the sound as currently its a bit echoey/hollow

I am currently building my first golf sim and just ordered the materials the other day. My plans include the following:

8 x 10 x 5 enclosure built with EMT from Home Depot and fittings from A1 tarps.
8 x 10 preferred screen from Carls. This will be attached with ball bungees.
8 x 10 white high impact netting from Florida Net Company. This will be attached with ball bungees and clamps if necessary.
3" king size memory foam mattress that was on sale from Home Depot. This will be attached by using a duvet cover and tarp clips to the enclosure (from Amazon). I plan to center this behind the screen.

Only time will tell if this actually works as planned.

Building my set up now. I have 3 layers of heavy duty painters drop cloth hanging. Waiting for my screen from West Coast Netting to come in.
I've hit balls into the drop clothes & they do a good job of of deadening impact.
