Hi All,
I have been hitting in an unfinished basement for a few years now using SkyTrak & TGC2019. Things have been cobbled together and functional, however since being on lockdown I have decided it's time to finish the entire basement space and put together a much more polished version 2.0. An upgrade to Uneekor may be in my future and I'll be prewiring to future proof for that possibility.
The question I've been struggling with is which direction to be hitting. The basement was supposed to be framed to be 10' but after dropping in joists and pouring a concrete pad it is exactly 9'4" from bare concrete to joist. I'll lose 3-4" with a hitting mat and finished ceiling, leaving me at 9' total height. This hasn't been a problem in version 1.0 however this pesky steel I-beam complicates the layout because it drops the ceiling height to about 8'6. To avoid the beam, I have been thinking about turning (left or right) from my original vision of hitting towards the top. I'm not sure that's the answer but wanted to get some thoughts before framing begins next week.
Caveat- I am not worried about left handed play. There are currently no lefties in my golfing circle.
Top Hitting
14' wide x ~17' to a post and ~20' to the back wall. Unfortunately, when hitting this direction the further back I go from the screen, the further right I have to go to avoid hitting the beam on follow through. Version 1.0 has been hitting from ~7'6" from the screen and ~1' offset right. I'd have to hit from ~6' to be centered in the room. The offset really doesn't bother me and I'm 75% sure this is the right way to go?
Left/Right Hitting
This direction gets me closer to center although the 13'6" width is a bit tight but things open up so I can add a few inches of space if needed. The viewing angles and shank directions are not ideal going this route. Is it worth considering?
I appreciate the help from all of you who have gone down this same path. I'm sure I'll be back once things get going and post progress as I go.
Thanks!
Mike
