  • Help Needed with Backyard Build!

    Hi all,

I'm setting up a hitting area in my backyard for my Flightscope X2 and was hoping to get some feedback from the experts. Attached are a couple pictures of my current setup.

Do you all have any thoughts on how I should orient the net, mat, and launch monitor in this space? For short indoor mode on the Flightscope, I need to have at least 8 feet from monitor to tee and 8 feet fromt tee to net.

A couple issues I'm having currently:
    • Flightscope is misreading some shots (more likely to occur at higher ball speeds with driver) and I'm not sure why. Could this be due to the metal shed behind the net or overhanging branches?
      • If I do need to "block out" the shed, is there something better to use than the tarp? It doesn't seem to be helping much. I've considered hitting away from the shed entirely as well.
    • Is there a way to landscape this area (mulch or rocks maybe?) to have a level platform for the Flightscope and a semi permanent area for the mat and net?
Thanks and hope everyone is staying safe and sane.

    Matt

I don't know enough about Flightscope to speak on the misread or shed issues.

As far as creating some sort of platform, you could possibly build a floor using 2x4s and plywood. Could then supplement that by laying some turf or rubber tiles on top. Maybe use a tarp to cover up the floor/mat at night for a little protection from the elements.

My first guess would be the ball flight distance. If it is only 8 feet and you have a good amount of ball speed then you could very much get an issue. However, I would also say the metal shed could be the culprit. Both of these could be easy to test by looking at your set-up. You could try adding a couple more feet or move your net so that the shed is not behind it to see if either changes your results. I also assume you are putting a metallic dot on the ball?
