Can I do this? Odd dimensions. Tray ceiling. I welcome suggestions:

Wanted to set up a sim in this room for a couple of years but I have been procrastinating. The unique dimensions have stalled me as much as anything. Assuming I will not be able to hit driver. Posted a pic with every dimension. Is this doable in this room? Hoping yes. Am i wrong?

I think angle irons attached to ceiling and walls is way to attach screen but there are 3 different ceiling heights. Where would you attach angle irons to ceiling? The tallest aspect of ceiling is not an option. That wouldn't make sense. The lowest part is 7' 4.5" tall and extends from wall 3 feet at that height. Middle part is 7' 8.5" tall and extends 16" from the shortest part of ceiling. If attached to middle ceiling, how close to lowest part could it be placed? I have read you want to be at least a foot or more from a wall behind the screen but we are only talking about the top 4 inches of lowest ceiling being behind screen. The overall room length could be a factor in this decision, I suppose. It is 16'6". So if angle irons are in very front of middle option, it would be around 12 feet from screen to wall. To further complicate, the projecter height and placement get tricky depending on this choice as well, correct?

Am I working with a square peg and round hole here? Grateful for any sincere feedback.......

So if I'm reading it all correct, the tallest part of the ceiling is 8'10'' and the overall depth (length) of the 8'10" section is 12'2"? (The total room is 16'6" but there's an overhang on one side). Or is that overhang on both sides (which would make the 8'10" section even shorter)?

I think the placement of your screen is less of an issue. The biggest issue is how the heck will you swing a club in there? A hitting mat will make the tallest portion of that ceiling more like 8'7" or so. How tall are you?

Thx for feedback. You read it correctly. The part that is 8'10" high is 12'2" in length. Hadn't even thought about the height of the mat.
There is carpet we could take up but don't know if it would equal hitting mat. I am 6'2". Can 100% swing irons without a concern. Might still be worth doing. Wife is getting into golf and at 5'2", I think she could swing driver. The pull up bar can be removed.

First thing i would do i verify you can swing in that area. What I would do is grab an alignment stick which is usually 48" and give it a light swing and see if you make contact with anything. If you do then Driver is off the table, then you can choke up on it and see if irons might be possible. It's going to be a tight fit for sure.

Appreciate your response. Driver is out. I am ok with that. All other clubs are no problem. Where to attach screen is next question

It is definitely possible and strongly agree with Jerry--first thing is to start swinging around and see what clubs you can and cannot swing. It won't be an ideal set up, but if you get utility out of it then that is all that matters!

You could look at ceiling mounted short-throw projector and a SkyTrak launch-monitor (or any other photometric launch monitor) which will fit your space.

I'd mount it on the wall in the picture get a 10' 10" screen by 10' screen (buy from DBGolf if you can). And hang it like this with tensioned wire https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9x-k-LeRW4I , that would be the idea scenario imo. I'd go with GC2 but if you want to keep on a tighter budget skytrak will work too.

When you say you can swing irons in there with no problem, you mean you've actually done it? I'm about 6'1" and I'd be terrified of swinging in there lol.

As far as other dimensions are concerned ..... You can get away with hitting at about 7 feet from your screen. Maybe even 6 feet. But any closer than that and you risk hitting the screen on your follow through. You also need to have a good 6 feet behind you (the wall facing your right hip for a righty) to make your backswing. With 12 feet to work with you could probably just make it work. However, that doesn't take into account the space you need behind the screen.

That being said, if you are hitting only irons you can get away with less backswing space (along with less space between you and the screen). So it's possible you could make it work from a length perspective.

With such a narrow space (made even more narrow by the overhangs on the sides) you will have to be pretty offset with your hitting location. (Not a big deal; plenty of people are).

My advice is to take a 4 iron in there and find the spot where you can make a full swing. Start out by just taking your grip and stance and slowly moving the club back, behind you, in front of you, above you, all around you. Gradually increase the speed of these movements until you're making full swings that are uninhibited. Put a piece of tape on the floor where the ball would be placed for that hitting position. That's your ball placement. Use that as your cornerstone and build around it.

You can use a floor-mounted projector if you're worried about ceiling space. Or, you could use that overhang to your advantage and mount the projector up there (depending on which way you plan on hitting).

In the end, something is better than nothing. What's in the door? Closet? You could maybe use that to your advantage to store the computer and clubs and what not in order to maximize the room space.

The nightmare scenario is putting time, money and effort into this and coming out with a shortened flat swing not natural for me. I haven't set up a net or anything but I have taken practice swings with 4 iron and I'm comfortable. Photometric or nothing with my constraints, correct?

Jerry - thx for the link. That looks like a useful approach to my tray ceiling issue.

Maybe the projector could go about where the pull up bar is currently. That door is to a mechanical closet. HVAC, hot water heater, etc. I do have enough room at the other end to store stuff. Here is a pic facing the other way.
