  • Sunroom build first attempt

Initially started out needing something portable for my sunroom since we still use the room throughout the year and I can't make it a 100% dedicated simulator room. My first though was to get a Spornia net and the white projection screen that you can purchase with it so I could project onto it, but was worried about all that glass in my sunroom and knew I needed additional ceiling and side protection. I then thought about just building an EMT frame around the Spornia net, and that probably would have worked, but I kept going back to just building an EMT frame and trying to make it as portable as I could. Here is what I came up with:
    Item: Cost: Links: Comments:
    Frame:
    Flat Roof Corners $34.50 http://tarps.com/chrome2.htm
    Mitre L $9.50

    22oz Mesh Tarp $50 https://gemplers.com/products/gemple...open-mesh-tarp Awesome tarp
    Bungee cords $12 https://www.amazon.com/SmartStraps-1...98&sr=8-4&th=1
EVA Puzzel Tile $96 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Still waiting for it to arrive
    Commando Cloth $35 https://www.onlinefabricstore.net/16...th-fabric-.htm 3 yards
    Side Protection:
Amazon Curtians $70 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Bought the 100x95 inch version; one for each side
Dynamax Netting $82 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Great failsafe for sides and back

    4x8 gymnastics mat $120 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 1 for each side
    Impact Screen:
SQ Raw Material $400 https://www.par2pro.com/shop/product...roducts_id=554 Par2Pro SQ Raw 9 liniar feet
    Matt:
    Quattro Matt $375 https://www.wittekgolf.com/Quattro-Mat
    Launch Monitor:
    Mevo+ $2,000 Ordered April 17
    Projector:
    Epson Pro EX9220 $599 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Amazon Renewed 3600 Lumen
    Ipad Mini $399
    $4,464.00

Still waiting on the EVA tiles to come in and the Mevo+ is probably not going to arrive until July or later according to some reports. I ordered on April 17th, so not expecting mine until late July anyway.

Also bought some casters to easily move it around which is really handy. When I'm not using it I can easily rotate it and put it up against the wall and that opens up the room enough to keep the wife happy.

I built it in such a way that I could tear it down and stand it up completely within 30 mins, but seems like I may be able to keep it up most of the time and just roll it off to the side when not in use. Here are some pics.

I’m going to give you the highest marks, not only for your well done accomplishment building your sim room, but also for being the bravest soul I know, All that glass! I’m not sure I could swing knowing its right there! Lol 😬. I know I would not let my wife have a swing.

That's why I have all the protection on all sides / ceiling / etc etc. It's been pretty solid and I've hit / thrown balls at all sorts of bad angles to test things out. If you notice I have some plywood leaning on the sliding glass doors near that back right of the enclosure. I have as many failsafes in place as I could think of. I've done a bunch of testing and can't get a ball through, so while I was nervous at first I feel pretty good about it being safe. My kids have put it to the test and have shanked balls right into the gymnastics mat and no issues, so I would say it's shankproof. Also pretty easy to put away. The gymnastics mats fold up pretty easy and store easy. Same thing for the projector, just unplug it and put it back in the bag and in short order the room is back to being a sunroom.

Maybe I should title this: How to build a golf simulator in a glass house.

Finally got around to adding some flooring. EVA puzzle foam came in and I got an extra scrap piece of turf from a local golf shop. Just waiting for the Mevo+ to arrive. Ordered on April 17th and expecting it to ship the week of August 10th.

Built a level extension for the Mevo+ to sit on to keep things level with the hitting mat.

The 3/4 inch EVA foam with the turf is perfectly level with the Quattro mat. Works great, but time will tell once the Mevo+ arrives. For reference the EVA tiles are 2x2, so I have an 8x8 pad in front of my hitting mat which gives me a little over 10 feet from the center of the hitting mat to the screen. I have 2x6 behind the hitting mat which gives me over 8ft to the ball for the Mevo+ to sit on. Fingers crossed that it all works out as planned. Two more weeks to wait.

The room is 25 feet long and 14 feet wide. The setup you see in the pictures spans about 19 feet in total from the back of the EVA foam to the screen.

8x8 EVA foam pad in front of the hitting mat
        5x5 Quattro hitting mat
2x6 EVA foam track for the Mevo+

        Total = 19 feet

My enclosure is 9 feet wide x 8 feet tall and the sides come out 5 feet.
